"10 Weddings. 1 Summer. No One Can Survive Alone."

It's that time of year: wedding season. A feared and loved part of adult life. During a hectic summer that amounts to roughly one wedding a weekend, two jaded college friends Ben and Alice make a pact to survive the onslaught together. Dragging their way toast after toast through the weddings of newlywed friends and family, including Ben's father's, they scour the tables in search of lonely companions, or at least some distraction.

This romcom mainly relies on sharp dialogues and Maya Erskine proves to be a master at this with perfect timing and facial expressions. From the moment she (temporarily) disappears from view, the film collapses. Fortunately, that is short-lived. A big enough pass. That is mainly Erskine's merit.

Annoying video. A comedy or drama, but there is little or nothing to laugh about, on the contrary. And the drama is also disappointing: you know in advance how this will end. What remains is the technically good acting of the two protagonists, they make their whiny written characters somewhat sympathetic. I thought Quaid (fortunately without dad's exaggerated style) made the better impression. Yet I don't think either actor will have a brilliant career, for the simple reason: the screen doesn't love them enough. Don't immediately see those two in a more memorable film. All in all: I'd rather watch Wedding Crashers again. Wasn't a masterpiece either, but it was pleasantly bolder than this hopelessly good formula work (did they really need two directors for this?)

Ben [Jack Quaid] has 10 weddings scheduled in a short period of time. His supposed “ideal woman” [Brianne Howey] is unattainable, so he takes college sweetheart Alice [Maya Erskine], who has just gotten out of a long-term relationship, as his 'plus one'. The ending is no surprise in advance, but the road to that denouement is full of clever observations, original situations and sparkling dialogues. Quaid and Erskine are spot on and avoid descending into caricature at all times. Nice supporting roles for Ed Begley Jr. and Rosalind Chao as Ben's father and Alice's mother respectively.
