Didn't know that man at all, but did recognize those dilapidated stadiums, the folksy atmosphere (do those rattles still exist?) and that heavy leather ball (18 rags and an inner bladder) and that was quite nice in this good film that mainly deals with the post-war emotions, which everyone had to deal with anyway and how forgiving and forgetting was so sensitive.

Margaret loved him but it cannot be denied: Trautman owed almost everything to his football talent. That's how it goes...

In itself a sympathetic and atmospheric film biography about Bert Trautmann. I used to read about him regularly in football books and stories in Voetbal International and so on. But again, not much seems to happen to justify an entire playing time of two hours.

A bit BBC / TV movie level production wise and Mavor is not very well cast despite her good looks.

During my primary school days – in the early 1950s – I collected football pictures, among other things. They came packaged with a wafer-thin stick of gum, which could be bought for a penny (5 cents) in a small grocery store down the street from us. The picture of Bert Trautmann was one of the pictures that I was extra careful with. Why I don't remember.

When I recently came across a review about the film Trautmann (The Keeper), a light went on spontaneously and I had to think back to my collection from that time. Director Rosenmüller has made a variegated biopic about this (in England) legendary goalkeeper. I think it's a beautiful film with a lot of drama and a handful of endearing moments. As so often with films, the sports scenes are less obvious, but a moan about that. Anyway, it was a real pleasure for me.
