This film actually gives exactly what you can expect: nothing more and nothing less. A romantic drama par excellence. The acting is sufficient, and it is Enzo who stands head and shoulders above the rest of the cast. The story is of course quickly predictable, but that is not really disturbing. Furthermore, all the standard ingredients that you expect in such a genre are present. Some reviewers indicate that it is not a comedy. That is true, but I still found Enzo's texts particularly funny at times, but it is certainly not underwear fun that makes you fall off your chair laughing. I would say: it is a romantic drama with the necessary lightness. A feel good movie and here and there a nice comic note. I completely agree with the comments made about Kevin Costner's voice: this voice really does not suit the dog: not sympathetic enough, too tired, too old. Certainly in the beginning with the young Enzo. I also thought it was a shame that the racing was used as a backdrop: much more could have been achieved there (I also say that as a racing fan). We won't even mention the last scene: I thought that was a real disgrace. But okay, all in all, as indicated, a film that gives you what you can expect. If you are in the mood for that, then The Art of Racing in the Rain will not disappoint. Therefore a neat 3 stars.

I love dogs and have always wanted one - but always an unsuitable home, a life that is too irregular and no daycare nearby for when I have to go away for a while. But it still gnaws at me a bit. But if there is one, one, 1 thing that permanently cures me of my latent desire for a dog, it is the idea that my future faithful four-legged friend has an inner Kevin Costner. Is there a list of biggest turn-offs in a movie, and then in such a way that it not only ruins the movie itself for you, but also the thing it is about? If so, then this movie is by far number 1.
That's about it with this blunder. Ventimiglia is miscast, but that hardly bothers him because he only has a few seconds of screen time. And Seyfried is okay, or maybe even great, but she too is barely given a chance to make anything of it.
That leaves the dog. Quite a lame choice to have a GT show up for that, such a good middle of the road dog. Should have dared to choose something, a Staf, a Patou, an Irish Wolfhound if necessary. A poodle even.
But this is just the height of cowardice, and so is the whole film.
