Might be nice for those who like to watch a movie after a few (or more) beers, because this alien road movie is hard to get through sober. The adolescent humor with 'rough-mouthed' characters, aliens included, and the jokes about tits and believers (strange combination) eventually get boring. The humor does not exceed the tits level and in terms of story the script does not go further than a duo "men in black" who are after the alien. Bland, though that was a bit to be expected. 1,5*

Actually an egotistic film for Edgar Wright, because everywhere in the reviews for Paul you read that the duo Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are fine, but never as nice as in his Cornetto trilogy. Not that the two with Greg Mottola are in very bad hands, but the difference in quality between a brilliant and super tight film like Hot Fuzz and a fairly interchangeable comedy like Paul is made extra clear by this casting. Comedians like Bill Hader, Jason Bateman or Seth Rogan clearly pull out all the stops, but the script often just doesn't want to be very funny. Paul knows his moments, but often things get muddy. It's quite charming, but a few puffs of air from my nostrils didn't stir the film for me. Paul is actually an Ola rocket; sometimes quite tasty, but it's not a fucking Cornetto.

3 stars.

Quite fun.

Again a sympathetic film with the duo Simon Pegg - Nick Frost, a pair of whom I really didn't want much of x number of years ago. With Paul they deliver a nice parody of films like ET, topped with their own coarse-mouthed comic sauce.

The film looks smooth, although not all interventions are equally successful. Jason Bateman as sort of T-800 is still okay, but when during the grand finale suddenly Sigourney Weaver makes an appearance in her most foolish role ever the film immediately suffers quality.

All in all, not too important in the end - all of the above is certainly entertaining enough to make Paul an ideal in-between.
