National Lampoon's Vacation plot

"Every summer Chevy Chase takes his family on a little trip. This year he went too far."

Clark Griswold has planned the family holiday well. Together with his wife Ellen, his son Rusty and his daughter Audrey, he wants to cross America to spend a few crazy days in the amusement parks on the west coast. Nobody can understand that he refuses to travel by plane. Especially when the new car turns out to be an ugly station wagon instead of the ordered sports car. The trip will not be boring, because wherever Clark Griswold passes, strange things always happen...

Nice comedy/road trip that sometimes has hilarious moments.

Remains a great film for all ages, also in 2021.

Haven't seen the sequels yet, but I'm looking forward to it now.

4 stars

Ah.

It's fairly clunky entertainment that will always appeal to a certain audience. Personally, I especially struggle with Chase as a comedian. That he is apparently known as a jerk in real life I take for granted, it is mainly his somewhat affected and forced traits that bring it down.

Fortunately, on the other hand, there is an event that is set up quite explosively. Lots of spectacle and events that follow each other, at least they never have a bad time within that family. Boredom is also not really in it, because director Ramis fortunately makes enough noise to cheer it all up even in the less fun moments.

The acting is nice, but it's all very scripted. The film takes a lot of advantage from the fact that the humor is sometimes crude, to a framework that today could no longer really cope with the current culture. Only they remain easy jokes that are clearly not made naturally, and that has little effect on me personally. The result is therefore also fairly half.

Really such a comedy where you don't have to think, but enjoy the jokes (sometimes bland) of the Griswold family. Who takes a road trip from Chicago to California to the Wally World amusement park, and that journey is not without its ups and downs. You like these kinds of comedies or not, but for me it's an annual look back movie that I enjoy watching.
