Pekka and Meeri are Finns, who live with their daughter Jaana in prosperous Sweden. Pekka comes from a village called Jerusalem in the north of Finland. The town is struggling with exodus to the big cities and it is so bad that the very last wedding ceremony will be concluded in August. The lucky one is Eljas, Pekka's uncle. The whole village always participates in the wedding. Pekka goes with his family to Jerusalem to attend and celebrate the wedding. His visit is only a pretext, as he would prefer to return to his native village and resume his old profession of carpenter. While flirting with his old flame Ritva, Meeri, who is bored, lets the wealthy landowner of the village take over.
