Ezra plot
Max Bernal was once a successful comedy writer. His work as a stand-up comedian is less appreciated. After his marriage also comes to nothing, he moves in with his father Stan. When he and his ex-wife Jenna have different opinions about the care of their 11-year-old autistic son Ezra, Max decides to kidnap his son. They travel together.

Despite their divorce, Max [Bobby Cannavale] and Jenna [Rose Byrne] do their best to raise their autistic son Ezra [William A. Fitzgerald] as best they can. After Ezra is expelled from a school for the umpteenth time due to his disruptive behavior, an impasse ensues over Ezra's future. Max decides to secretly take Ezra to his brother [Rainn Wilson], but along the way he is told by his manager [Whoopi Goldberg] that he can perform as a stand-up comedian with Jimmy Kimmel! Jenna makes desperate attempts to convince Max's father Stan [Robert De Niro] to help her. Wandering road movie has some endearing moments, especially in the second half, but the main characters and their mutual relationships are not sufficiently developed. De Niro, Wilson and Vera Farmiga (like an old friend with whom Max and Ezra stay for a short time) provide the best moments.

Beautiful film, it will probably not be watchable by everyone, but Goldwyn has created a great piece of film that manages to move.
Interesting to see Cannavale dive into a somewhat more homely character, which shows what a class actor this has become over the years.
De Niro also plays a very fascinating role and I noticed that he allows his character to express emotion here in a different way than we are used to. Very interesting.
But for me the undisputed standout is Fitzgerald, I don't think any further explanation is necessary.
If you like films that break social taboos, this is an absolute must, 100 minutes of enjoyment!

Nice drama. The story is simple and, despite the subject, quite superficial. There could have been more in it. The effect varies. The first part is a bit stiff and bordering on boring. The second part is better with a bit more emotion. The ending is typically American, everything turns out fine and everyone is good friends again, so to speak. The acting is good. 3.0
