Excellent film in which a teenager meets her older self during a mushroom trip. A coming-of-age film with a nice premise that gradually gets better. The film has a few touching moments and the chemistry between Percy Hynes White and Maisy Stella is clearly present. With this second film after The Fallout Megan Park does not disappoint at all.

My Old Ass
During a psychedelic experience, 18-year-old Elliott meets her 39-year-old self. Her older self offers life advice about relationships, choices, and growing up. The result is a funny and moving journey of self-discovery.
It's been a while since I've seen a romcom, but when I saw this movie on Prime and saw that it had a high rating on MovieMeter, I thought: why not?
This film has a beautiful, funny and touching story, with characters that are immediately likeable. The chemistry between Elliott and Chad works really well and gives the film that little bit of extra charm. Themes such as life choices, identity and the uncertainties of growing up are touched upon in a light-hearted way, which makes for a nice mix of humor and depth.
An absolute must.

With such a title I thought of a somewhat silly film. But My Old Ass is not that at all.
It is a contemporary, headstrong, fresh and sympathetic coming of age film with a cast that is relatively unknown to me and that does a great job. Sweet but not cloyingly sweet. Sensitive but not overly sentimental. And witty but not ridiculous. My Old Ass is wonderfully balanced. The pictures, the characters, the soundtrack: Everything is right. In addition, the premise is also quite original.
You do get a sense of where the story is going pretty quickly. After the first 15 minutes, the script had no more surprises. But that didn't matter, because this romcom was just a really nice sit. And a short sit. How many films clock in under 90 minutes these days?
