Pleasure comedy.

Very funny at times, but also a bit too over-the-top to be anything special - quite a few of the situations and jokes could have been turned on a lot more, and that would have benefited the film as far as I'm concerned - had in any case helped to remember the whole thing for more than a day or so.

I had seen Hayden Pannettiere before and I was very disappointed, but that is no longer an issue here. Obviously learned a bit or matured a bit. Or maybe just a slightly better director.

Bland Columbus.

Didn't immediately expect these kinds of films to come out of his brain, although Columbus gives me a rather desperate impression these days. These kinds of films are also a lot different from his somewhat larger productions. It's great that directors sometimes want to take a smaller approach, but I don't think this is the best way.

The opening was still fun though. The film also immediately makes clear its comedic slant, but also what kind of film you will see the rest of the time. The trick to make it as uncomfortable as possible for the viewer has been done before, so Columbus decides to stick to this heavily throughout the film and not to make any changes to it. Logically.

It makes for a movie that looks nice, but after so many stupid interactions between and from the two boys with the girls, I was done with it. It's amazing how they end up in these situations. It seems to me that this film was written by someone who is completely out of touch with the material he or she is working with. In any case, I didn't really recognize a young culture in any of this.

Furthermore, the film tries to be a bit more heartwarming towards the end, but after all the rather strange scenarios that precede it, this part doesn't really sink in, let alone charm you. It's a shame, because the acting wasn't necessarily bad. Panettiere fits perfectly into this film and has just the right look. The film also takes the film a lot further.

It's a shame that the film is actually too bland and relies on humor that had already burned out after 15 minutes, but otherwise quite a lot happens, no matter how bland this may be. There are quite a few dubious scenarios in this film so you can never take the blossoming relationship between Panettiere and Rust seriously, but it does look nice and doesn't last too long.
