Another great Mel Brooks film. Perhaps one of the best. And that will probably only get better as I see more Hitchcock films, since I didn't understand all the parodies, but found them funny nonetheless.

It's another ridiculous story with lots of silly elements, but oh so fun. And Mel Brooks is at it again. What a great guy he is.

4.5*

A decent film about a psychiatrist who takes charge of a large psychiatric hospital. The plot is extremely simple, but manages to keep the film going sufficiently. The jokes related to the plot are quite funny. However, the film is at its funniest when it pokes fun at the films of Alfred Hitchcock.

Sunday evening classic night didn't really bring a classic as it did an older film, and so that turned out to be High Anxiety. In itself, not necessarily a film that appealed to me, because I don't find Mel Brooks that funny, but it's always worth a try, of course...

The abundance of scenes and films borrowed from and parodied with a great deal of Hitchcock is abundantly clear; furthermore, jokes are made out of everything, such as the chauffeur with the trunk, or things are given weight, like the ominous music accompanying a landing plane. And it is quite something, with Doctor Richard attempting to unravel a sort of conspiracy in his new institution while simultaneously in urgent need of help himself. In some respects, the film could therefore be considered a precursor to *Airplane* and *Naked Gun*, and it does have some nice moments, such as the conversation between Cartwright and the two doctors, where one of them is all too eager to push Cartwright to the edge.

However, it is not exactly sunshine for this Brooks production, where the man himself did practically everything from lead role to direction and script, and even wrote and sang the music himself, which is incredibly impressive. But to me, it is frequently too lame for words, jokes are dragged out too long, it rarely manages to be genuinely funny or entertaining in my opinion, and for me, it falls reasonably short.
