Douce France plot
Moussa is the son of a Harki (these are Algerians who, like the Ambonese, fought on the side of their colonial ruler). He is friends with Jean-Luc who hopes to become a lawyer specializing in immigrant cases. Jean-Luc's ex-girlfriend is Soaud, who works in a burger joint. She feels completely French and does everything to assimilate, while her sister Farida has adopted the Islamic faith of her traditionally minded parents and wears a headscarf. They live in the Paris-North suburb of Saint-Denis, a gritty neighborhood populated with immigrants living in tenements, where unemployment and petty crime are rampant, while a racist police force tries to maintain order. Jean-Luc and Moussa enrich themselves with the loot left by a burglar, while Moussa's mother prepares his wedding to a newly arrived niece. When the wedding is to be celebrated, Moussa is drunk. He invades the neighbor's apartment and slips into the neighbor's bed, who now considers all Arabs to be polygamous terrorists.
