When Randal [Jeff Anderson] narrowly escapes death after a heart attack, he decides it's high time to make his big dream come true: a movie about the people and incidents he's experienced in all the years that he has lived. works in the store. Of course he asks co-owner Dante [Brian O'Halloran] and colleague Elias [Trevor Fehrman] to help, but Dante in particular has other things on his mind. Loving look back at the time when Kevin Smith made his legendary debut film Clerks in which as many actors as possible (including those in tiny roles) return to replay those scenes. Obviously made for and by fans of Clerks and they will undoubtedly enjoy this. The screenplay is clearly that of someone who has learned the necessary life lessons since his breakthrough in 1994 and that makes this a worthy sequel anyway, even if you have to Clerks and preferably also [i]Clerks II[/ i] seen to see the fun of this. Naturally, a variety of well-known names appear for a cameo.

Just like its predecessor, pretty worthless. Some funny jokes here and there, but the whole thing is very disappointing. The average on IMDB must be sentimental because there are comedies that score much lower but are much better.

“You have to excuse my friend. He's not down with the trilogy.”

With this third part, Kevin Smith has made his own trilogy of the crazy world he created in the mid-90s.

In the tradition of the countless remakes, reboots and sequels of the past few years, Clerks 3 is a meta-movie. Kevin Smith is aware of the whole meta-trend and deals with it in an original way, by letting Randal and Dante literally film and relive their own lives. The references to the original film and its sequel are plentiful, and it helps if you know these films well. The humor then works significantly better.

Sometimes it gets a bit lame, but hey, it's Kevin Smith, you know what to expect. Sentiment is not shunned and this film therefore feels less airy than the other parts. It's clearly a film with Smith reflecting on his own childhood (he worked at the Quickstop himself during the first film) and in this part we see a kind of making-of. Over the top of course, but those who know the background will notice many details that are based on truth.

Not as genius as the first, and less relaxed than the second. But a fun and funny film, which also encourages some reflection. Clerks remains an interesting concept, because in addition to all the stoner humor it also becomes clear that ultimately you are responsible for your life. And that wisdom may well be repeated three times.

3.5*
