I have watched the short version, I assume that the differences are that it is narrated (English) with the text explanations that were included in the original. I am satisfied with that version. As has already been said here, the beginning took a while, I started to wonder whether it was really about 'häxan', because people only talked about demons and the like. But a little later the witches are indeed discussed, and they remain in the film.

For me, this is the most 'true' witch film I have seen (as far as we can now find out what happened in those Middle Ages), I have learned a lot wiser. The Middle Ages were 100 years closer to the creator than to us, so he probably had a better view of it than we do today. By the way, I think witches are the forgotten subject by Hollywood, I don't encounter them much more than as side characters, with the only exception Season of the Witch (2011) . If anyone has any good tips about films about witch persecutions, etc., I'd love to hear them.

It's funny how the film (rightly) lectures people from the Middle Ages. That outdated view of witches is briefly corrected: they were not witches, it was because of the hysteria.... Almost 100 years later, that 'disease' is already outdated, so who knows how many wrong scientific conclusions we draw nowadays that will be laughed at in about 100 years...

Fun, fascinating and interesting film. 3.5*

When I saw the first part I wondered where all the rave reviews came from, but the film got better and better afterwards. The theme about witches gives a good idea of the witch hunters at that time, how people at that time thought about witches and the devil, and you get a good idea of society through an appropriately ugly elaboration of the characters, both externally and internally. area. Very nicely made for that time because the sinister characters and the devil are visually beautifully depicted. Special film that I was able to discover thanks to alexspyforever. 7/10

Two years ago my son did a speaking assignment about witches at school. A number of the black and white pictures here were also reviewed at the time. What an interesting documentary this was! Quite educational and packed with information. At first it looked like a PowerPoint presentation with the cursor. And later the theory was turned into practice with some lifelike medieval scenes.

The scenes also looked great, especially for a film from the 1920s. Various topics were discussed, such as the temptation of the witches (and their concoctions), but also their relationship with the devil or how to combat them.

The soundtrack was also quite nice. Not annoying, but nicely fitting in the frame. Enchanting at times, like a pan flute straight from hell. Fine!

The hysteria amongst people and the fervor they will use to explain the often unexplainable is powerful, and they don't shy away from the unpleasantness of Fear and Ignorance.

It really shows the Atrocities in the name of the church the Catholics were willing to use to spread fear amongst the uneducated masses for control over even their thoughts, not just their physical bodies.
