Koyaanisqatsi is an audiovisual experience to say the least. The visual aspect was at times dazzlingly beautiful and presented a beautiful account of beautiful images and phenomena of nature on the one hand, but also the impact of humans on nature with its industrial development and consumerism on the other. The images were cleverly edited and very flashy, especially the streams of people or the car traffic I found fascinating. Flashy and sometimes sped up which can make some viewers nauseous watching it.

On top of that, your ears also get the necessary stimulation with Glass's uplifting beats. Actually a docu/film that I would have liked to have experienced on a big screen in the cinema, where perhaps all this will come through even more strongly. The film gives a nice approach and has a nice underlying message. Nice!

'Koyaanisqatsi' was the debut film by American director Godfrey Reggio, who took the title from the Indian Hopi language, where the word means “a life out of balance”. It is therefore a pamphlet-like film, where the beauty of untouched nature is contrasted with areas cultivated and industrialized by man. And yes, it is busy in the cities, but the endless strings of pedestrians and car lights also provide their own beauty. The images are tightly edited to the minimal music written for the film by the ensemble led by composer Philip Glass. The soundtrack marked (to the horror of many of his colleagues) Glass's definitive breakthrough to a mainstream audience.
