Clerks III described as 'heartbreaking' by Rosario Dawson

Rosario Dawson believes the upcoming third installment of the Clerks series will prove to be "heartbreaking" for audiences.

In Clerks III, Randall Graves (Jeff Anderson) suffers a heart attack and so decides to pursue his dream of making a movie alongside his best friend Dante (Brian O'Halloran) in their Quick Stop convenience store.

At the conclusion of Clerks II, Dante and girlfriend Becky (Dawson) were expecting a baby.

Dawson has revealed that the plot of Clerks III changed after writer and Clerks creator Kevin Smith suffered a heart attack himself.

"I’ve been wanting to come back and have Becky explored as a character since we ended Clerks II with her pregnant, she told The Hollywood Reporter.

"I was like, 'Where does this story go?'

“Kevin had a version of the script floating around. He had written it a few years ago, but it ended up not happening, which was devastating

"And then he had a widowmaker heart attack; we almost lost him. He put that whole experience into this, and he brought Becky back in a very controversial way.

"But, it was heartbreaking, and it also just felt really special and important and magical.”

In addition, to Randall, Dante, and Becky, we will see the return of Jay and Silent Bob in Clerks III, played by Smith and Jason Mewes.

Other cast members include Marilyn Ghigliotti, Trevor Fehrman, Amy Sedaris, Ben Affleck, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Fred Armisen.
