"Everyone is looking for the next big hit"
When Chili Palmer (John Travolta) decides to try his luck in the music industry, he hooks up with the seductive widow (Uma Thurman) of a recently murdered record executive. He steals the beautiful singer Linda Moon from the competitor and discovers that a lot of false notes are being blown behind the beautiful scenes of the music world.

“I hate sequels.”
Be Cool wants to be everything, but in the end manages to make a real impression on nothing. The film aims to be a light-hearted detective with humor and some suspense. But it soon ends in one big farce and not in the good sense of the word.
The actors try, but don't know how to behave and what kind of movie they ended up in. Be Cool certainly has some entertaining scenes, but I don't think director Gary Gray knows what kind of movie he wants to make. Be Cool is not exciting enough, not funny enough, and not sharp enough as a satire on Hollywood life. Neither meat nor fish this film.

While I expected more from it (especially considering the cast), this is still an entertaining Comedy/Crime movie, with John Travolta saying during the opening scene "I hate sequels" and that of course refers to the Comedy / Crime film "Get Shorty (1995)".
In the movie "Get Shorty", Chili Palmer (John Travolta) already entered the film industry with flair and in this sequel he shifts his field of activity to the music world, where he tries to launch the ambitious Linda Moon (Christina Milian). But there too, shady characters seem to rule, including a shooting rage record boss and a gang of resentful Russians. Chili Palmer's task is to usurp power as coolly as possible.
The story is unfortunately a bit disappointing and many jokes and plot twists are old-fashioned and outdated, but nevertheless director F. Gary Gray delights his cast with some quirky one-liners and a few nice plot twists. John Travolta is coolness incarnate, although he gets a lot of resistance from Vince Vaughn. But the show is really stolen by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who has donned frantic homoerotic outfits, poking fun at his macho image. There is also a guest appearance by the American hip-hop/house band "The Black Eyed Peas", who were popular at the time.
All in all, "Be Cool" is an entertaining sequel to Get Shorty", with some good jokes and of course it's especially nice to see many famous actors, actresses and real singers in this film, such as John Travolta, Uma Thurman , Vince Vaughn, Dwayne Johnson, Harvey Keitel, James Woods, Christina Milian, André Benjamin (aka "André 3000"), Steven Tyler, Wyclef Jean, etc.
