“Gentlemen, trials are too important to be left up to juries.”

Book adaptations by John Grisham can turn out well or very badly, and luckily Runaway Jury tilts to the right side. The film is too long and a tighter script would have been welcome, but the actors keep the attention and the direction is also strong.

It's nice to see Hoffman and Hackman in a movie together and Cusack and Weisz are also on a roll. The story is well put together and especially the court scenes are sometimes quite exciting. All in all a strong courtroom drama with the necessary suspense.

Nice movie.

In large part, of course, that's because of the excellent John Grisham story on which the film is based. Perhaps not exactly literally credible, but if you consider for a moment how great the interests are in such a lawsuit as this, it is almost inevitable that every conceivable means will be used if the result is even a small part of it. the 'right' side is taken out. Whether that is worse than a system without a jury is not to be taken for granted - everyone else involved in the room can also be bribed, and it is equally inevitable that this will also happen in practice.

A very nice cast too - one of the rare films where Hoffman doesn't annoy me, and good acting from Cusack, Weisz and Hackman. The only other criticism is that it is beautiful craftsmanship, but also a bit less brave. Perhaps the implicit criticism of the 2nd amendment was brave enough. It's still a very strange country, America.

The film adaptations of John Grisham's books, fortunately, remain quite close to the book. Because the story is surely the great asset in the film, even here in Runaway Jury you can see how exciting he can write. Add a group of character actors and you have a fascinating film. The film doesn't really aim visually, and I don't see much film creativity either. But a strong thriller that I was really fascinated to watch. Of course you can see who the good guys and the bad guys are, and yet you manage to keep the tension high. Especially because the pace is so high. Wonderful movie!
