Faint.

A very large and well-known cast for a film that's actually not that impressive. Newman must have been a good wordsmith, because he managed to gather all the names. Maybe not the hippest actors at the time, but you can still recognize everyone to some extent.

What the story could use to its advantage is the clearly dense action. Quite a lot happens within this film. If it's not a change in the script, it's a short action scene or twist. Not that the story is otherwise original, but the many seemingly unconnected scenarios are brought together in a remarkable way, and that manages to hold the attention.

The acting isn't particularly brilliant, but it's the somewhat bland and restrained stylization that doesn't quite work. There's really not a single memorable scene, except perhaps a few interspersed jokes if that's your thing. Newman doesn't do much to make his film anything out of the ordinary, despite its rather unusual approach.

What remains is essentially a bland affair that manages to be just captivating enough to avoid being annoying. But it has to be your thing, because I found it all rather clumsy. One that's never truly spectacular, exciting, or hilarious. I found it a bit dull and a film I'll most likely forget within a day.

Hardman [Samuel L. Jackson] trains girls from kindergarten to become killing machines. Of the new class, Megan [Hailee Steinfeld] is the first student to be "activated," but during her first operation, she decides to escape to experience what it's like to live a "normal" life. She is taken in by the Larson family and attends high school with the daughter of the family [Dove Cameron]. A high school comedy with an original slant and a view of student life that is much more nuanced—and doesn't cling to traditional boxed-in thinking—than many of its predecessors. Steinfeld is excellent in the lead role in a fast-paced, but not very deep, action-comedy, with Jessica Alba amusing as the villain.

This is the comedy genre that reminds me of Lindsay Lohan, and Hailee Steinfeld has the same charm to shine in this genre. She's the film's biggest (and rare) asset. Samuel L. Jackson has a bit of a hand, but others like Jessica Alba and Sophie Turner are simply awful. The script is also a bit clichéd, which is a shame because, thanks to Steinfeld, it's actually quite good. She makes the film enjoyable, but the rest is just a production.
