He is a con man and does not want to perform too heavy, service-oriented work as an alternative punishment. He is stuck with a sickly liar who is released from the psychiatric clinic. When the sick person is mistaken for a millionaire, the con man asks him to lie. He doesn't want this because he becomes a completely different person when he lies.
