Very nice satire. My favorite Altman movie.

Very fine satire, viewed from a special point of view, which is the mobile hospital. Altman makes a great improvised whole of this, which knows no line, but shows us a collection of circumstances. It keeps the realism factor high and gives the actors plenty of space to show their best side. The atmosphere is very nice and the balance between the horror of war and satire has been found. Very fine film that was the basis of one of the most successful series ever.

4*

This movie was a nice precursor to the legendary MASH series (the series started in 1972), which I personally liked better. But yes, the series has of course also run for more than 10 years and then you soon get a bond with the series and the extras in it. I saw the series itself before this film, so it took some getting used to the cast in this film, which is completely different. But this cast also did well and was fun and that could not be otherwise with greats such as Donald Sutherland, Robert Duvall and, to a lesser extent, Elliott Gould. The story is pretty good and there are always a few laughs. Visually it all looked nice and the opening song of course remains strong and they later also used it for the series.

PS Sally Kellerman (as 'Hot Lips' O'Houlihan) may not match Loretta Swit who plays the same role in the series, but at least she was naked
