Great Balls of Fire! plot

"The true story of a legend."

In 1956, enfant terrible Jerry Lee Lewis (Dennis Quaid) moves from Louisiana to Memphis, determined to knock Elvis off his pedestal. When Jerry drums the bass chords with his feet, the fans clamor for more, and when he ends a performance by setting the piano ablaze, they storm the stage. However, when he marries his 13-year-old grandniece Myra (Winona Ryder), the scandal that ensues is almost disastrous for his career.

Nice biography of rock 'n roll legend Jerry Lee Lewis, who was played perfectly by Dennis Quaid. In fact, he looked a lot like it.

By the way, having your niece or another family member is indeed not incest. It is only incest if you have sexual intercourse with it.

Funny video with a big advantage: the fast way of telling the story.

Everything moves fast in this film, the music, Dennis Quaid and the popularity of his character JL Lewis. This makes the film very pleasant to watch, but the same speed also has disadvantages.

The competition between The King and The Killer is only represented by fans and chart positions. Unfortunately, the two times they see each other, it remains very superficial.

The often most intriguing aspect of an artist's life, the dark periods, are also shown in rapid succession. A little more depth was desired....

Biopic of one of the most unique figures in the history of rock'n roll. Biopics are usually a difficult task that often leads to a storyline with a parade of characters and time jumps. Fortunately, that is not the case here. The story covers the period 1956-1959 with a limited group of people involved. This definitely increases the viewing pleasure of this compact rise and fall story. Dennis Quaid does a great job as half-crazy Jerry Lee Lewis. That was also the opinion of 'the original' - although not everyone was happy with certain interpretations of the scenario.

Winona Ryder plays a 13-year-old girl at 26 and does a convincing job. The 1950s design of the production is excellent. You imagine yourself in the atmosphere of Memphis back then. We even catch a few glimpses of the young Elvis, more as a kind of gimmick. This is a film that every old school rock'n roll fan should see. It's also nice how JLL's sources of inspiration receive the necessary attention.

I'm also glad that I was able to see the man himself live in Brussels in 2008. His music will remain.
