I think even the toughest guy will get a lump in his throat from this. I thought it was a very nice movie. Didn't bore me for a minute.

Beautiful drama with excellent roles by Jon Voight and the very young Rick Schroder. The ending of the movie is quite emotional. The film can still be viewed regularly on TCM.

Reasonable tear-jerker (although I certainly didn't shed a tear myself) that looks nice, especially the ending is over-sentimental. The long boxing scene also feels a bit forced. The young Ricky Schoeder whines a bit in this film, but still does the best of the entire cast. Jon Voight and Faye Dunaway are two excellent actors, but they are out of place here and therefore not convincing.
