It was time for quality cinema. Spongebob, hero of many a brackish morning, is back for another adventure, and it's exactly what you can expect. I can understand that some people find this bland or childish, or get tired of the absurd twists and some characters. But I do enjoy it. To be fair, the film is really little more than a film-stretched series of episodes, centered around multiple quests for the Crabby Patty's secret recipe. Don't expect anything innovative, it's mainly the same anarchic, busy humor that is also central to the series, and that I can have. Many a successful joke and also many a less successful joke, and in the end perhaps no better than you will see in the series. Nice for people who already like Spongebob, but it won't win new souls I'm afraid.

Those cold, bloodless looks when my favorite sponge and starfish look at me. Devoid of any expression or charm, but like dead carcasses. Curiously, it also seems like the hand-drawn animation offers more room for grosser jokes, while in three dimensions it's limited to a mushy superhero parody with hysterical action sequences. The live-action character Burger Beard (Antonio Banderas) is fun when introduced in a corny opening sequence, but quickly becomes tiresome when he seems primarily intended for poop and fart jokes around ugly animated seagulls.

This was another fun movie. Of course you shouldn't watch Spongebob for a high-quality story, but the film looked nice anyway. The movie looked good, and in the last half hour or so it was even a 3D Spongebob that was nicely done. There was also a role for Antonio Banderas as a pirate
