This film gets a 5 from me. At least still drawn, nice storyline.

Although I watched The Rescuers countless times at the local cinema as a child, when I reviewed it, I noticed how much I had forgotten about it, unlike other Disney films.

The story isn't much this time around, but Disney makes up for the sparse plot with action, a dash of suspense and humor. Despite the absence of a sweet princess story, it is still a typical Disney: the villain bears the appropriate name Medusa and could have been the sister of Cruella de Vil, her assistant is called mister Soeps in Dutch, just like the story, so neither a lot of soup. The red-haired Xanthippe has two remarkable pets who protect her as bodyguards and accompany her at all times. No Doberman Pinschers, as we often see in movies, but two crocodile crocodiles: Brutus and Nero. That naming always haha, Disney is really genius at that. The crocodiles are what I like most about this film, their funny waddling, the mean grin, the narrow eyes that glow bright green..

But besides Brutus and Nero there are many other animals (remarkably many, by the way) that provide a comical note and/or endear it: the albatross, a dragonfly, a cat, an owl, bats and of course the mice..

Because what is a Disney without animals?

A fun cartoon from the talented Disney stable. The sketchy drawing style has its charm. We are used to more pastel colors at Disney. The voices of the Hungarian beauty Eva Gabor and comedian Bob Newhart, known for his numerous guest appearances in the Dean Martin show, are excellently cast. They make a cute duo together. Medusa is also well portrayed by Geraldine Page, and Joe Flynn as her sidekick Snoops. Madame Medusa reminds me a bit of Miss Hannigan from the movie Annie (1982).
