A nice reminder of how the old classics worked story-wise. A simple adventure, a deeper wisdom, fun characters and beautiful animation. It was all very overblown and therefore lacks subtlety, it is overflowing with plot armor and has little emotional substantiation for why things happen the way they do - which makes it rather superficial. But it's something nice to see once. Think of a modern, much less profound, Finding Nemo.

The malaise in animation land continues with this routinely written, over-acted and animated story of wild ducks Mack [Kumail Nanjiani] and Pam [Elizabeth Banks], whose children Dax [Caspar Jennings] and Gwen [Tresi Gazal] have never found their safe pond. have left. A lightning visit from a group of ducks on their migration south makes them decide to fly to Jamaica on their own. Uncle Dan [Danny de Vito] joins them. What follows is an episodic story involving an old heron [Carol Kane], a group of city pigeons led by Chump [Awkwafina] and a toucan [Keegan-Michael Kay] who can show them the way to Jamaica. Contains a number of pointless action scenes to justify the 3D, but there is no originality whatsoever and the exaggerated humor quickly becomes boring.
The preview 'Mooned' is a pale copy of The Road Runner.

As an adult you can be annoyed by a lot if you want. Very predictable film with many clichés surrounding a family of ducks, one of which (the father indeed) has to give in to the rest to fly out into the wide world during the winter period instead of staying at home. One (the son indeed) eventually becomes the big hero.
And to be honest. I found those ducks irritating, every single one of them, including the white ones. But all in all it remains entertaining. I thought the scene with the heron was the best in the film. Even quite scary for the little ones, but very well done. They wanted to create something similar with those pigeons, but that was less successful.
It's one big adventure and it's never boring. The bad guy only comes into action quite late and is actually somewhat unexpected, but the film never actually comes to a standstill. Not bad, but there are better (commercial) animated films than this.
