Steven Spielberg devises an ingenious script in which a bunch of boys and girls go on a treasure hunt through caves, caverns and subterranean passages, encounter lots of filthy junk and skeletons, now and then come to the terror of death because an ancient lone pirate has set all kinds of traps in the itinerary. , and of course being chased by a bunch of modern day bandits who have also locked up a strange family member for years because he doesn't look very nice.

The Goonies is therefore a film like a comic strip by Suske en Wiske: crazy, full of violence and with references to today's situations. For example, the large landowners who want to make a quiet village disappear through their speculations. The children are convinced that they can solve the problems themselves, without the adults. What's more, even the older children, the adolescents who already ogle too much at the opposite sex, are presented as fools. They are not allowed into true pirate romance until they throw their sexual immaturity overboard and devote themselves entirely to the adventure. And admittedly, even as a spectator you will be rewarded: the skeletons are very creepy and the pirate ship is a gem.

You should therefore only expect any negative criticism from this angle in the first half hour of the film: the study of the pirate map, found in father's attic, takes too long. This has to do with the fact that all heroes must be clearly introduced to the viewer.

3.5*

“Goonies never say die!”

Superb youth classic. The Goonies is a dream for every child, but also as an adult it is a pleasure to watch the adventures of Mikey, Data, Chunk, Mouth and Brand. All the actors are good, but Ke Quan is the best as Data. The sets are impressive, the humor works, it is adventurous, and sometimes even quite exciting (and (too) scary for children). And the ending remains sentimental in all the right ways. The Goonies is a movie that I can watch a thousand more times, and I won't be bored for a second every time.

Too bad I didn't see this movie once as a kid. That kind of youth sentiment or nostalgic feelings usually gives these kinds of films a shine, but I don't have that with this one. I don't want to be too critical either; it is clearly a feel-good 80's children's film, and then you should not complain too much about it as a 20+. The atmosphere is absolutely fun and although there is a lot of annoying shouting, most children know how to play a cool role. Effects also okay, although it's all pretty minimal. I expected a children's version of Indiana Jones earlier, but it's all a bit more boring and a little less adventurous than I thought. A few innocent booby traps, a lot of walking around hallways. Bon, 2.5*, would undoubtedly have been higher if I'd seen this one as a young lad (and also shows that nostalgia is arguably one of the most important factors in movie experience).
