Seen 2 years ago.

A remarkably beautiful and lovely film, one that I think even deserves a novel. The set design is truly stunning, especially by O'Hara, who looks absolutely stunning in her gorgeous dress. Anthony Quinn is one of my favorite actors and delivers a truly powerful performance. The same goes for Power and Mitchell. Simply well-cast. Excellent actors who play these roles brilliantly. The rest is also delightfully atmospheric, especially in the small rooms (the torture chamber), which were beautifully shot. The ship scenes were also visually stunning. The dialogue is certainly not bad either.

A truly antique piece that definitely deserves more attention. Simply beautiful and fascinating. Very luxuriously and elegantly made. Hats off to Henry King. 4.5.

A true Technicolor film...literally, as film schools used this film for decades as a model for color and lighting.

Maureen O'Hara was nicknamed the "Queen of Technicolor".

While filming an earlier colour production (To the Shores of Tripoli - 1942), which used huge bright spotlights, she developed eye problems so severe that she could barely keep her eyes open during the shoot.

A reason for her not to want to participate in "The Black Swan".

However, cameraman Leon Shamroy convinced her that he could film without her being bothered by the lights.

That turned out to be true, because at the beginning of the filming O'Hara thought the spotlights still had to be turned on, while they had already been turned on, so sparsely were they used by Shamroy.

The result was astonishing.

This is one of my favorite pirate movies, an exciting story, spectacular with beautiful scenes at sea, and a nice chemistry between Power and Maureen O Hara.
