Le Baccanti plot

According to Tiresias, the drought that afflicts Thebes is the fault of King Pentaeus, who does not want to make sacrifices to the God Bacchus. So the King decides to make a human sacrifice and chooses Mantos, the daughter of Tiresias. Pentaeus has usurped the throne of Lakdamos, who lives as a slave, but is actually entitled to it. However, he is not aware of his royal lineage. He is in love with Mantos and to save her life he enlists the help of Dirces, the wife of Pentaeus. On the advice of Tiresias, Mantos brings a group of girls to Mount Cytherona to ask the God for leniency...
