My kung fu is not strong enough to fully appreciate this movie. I can laugh at the jokes, the fights are pretty nice to watch at times, but I do get quite distracted by the somewhat outdated visuals - poor lighting, continuity errors, the very Chinese soundtrack scrapes over me at times' n ear nerves... and then I'm not even talking about my buttocks, which after just two hours of nonstop pedaling are starting to whine a bit. But, the drunken master and the neighbors are really genius. Maybe I should learn a little more Shaolin after all.

Very mediocre this early Jet Li movie. The humor in particular is terrible. I rarely find humor like this really appropriate in combination with martial arts; this kind of nonsense takes away a lot of the tension and intensity of the kung fu fights. The Last Hero in China is therefore far below the level of, for example, the excellent Iron Monkey (4*) where it all worked out. This one is meant more as a pure parody of the genre.

A martial arts teacher (who is also a doctor) moves his school next to a brothel and clashes with members of the Boxer sect who want to assert their power and run a trade in prostitutes . In addition, a mishmash of strange additions that did not always benefit the film: a "centipede", a poison that makes deaf and a pimp who wants to become a kung fu student. The nadir came at the end : Jet Li dressed up in a chicken.

Stays fun.

And I wasn't so sure beforehand, because Jing Wong is still a strange little man. But surrounded by the right people, he finally manages to create a small masterpiece. It's 100% formula work, but the execution is proper, so is the entertainment.

Jet Li is crucial in the story, together with Woo-ping Yuen he ensures that the action is right. Jing Wong mainly adds some weird ideas, such as the fight between the chicken and the centipede. Weird, but at least memorable, something a movie like this needs.

Don't expect too much from it, it's just fun entertainment that comes out of a well-oiled machine. fun fun.

4.0* and a extensive review
