"Her legend begins."

It has been seven years since the father of 21-year-old Lara disappeared. Instead of taking over her father's business, she works as a bicycle courier in London while attending college classes. Ultimately, inspired to investigate her father's disappearance, she travels to his last known location: a grave on an island off the coast of Japan.

This is more like the adventures of Lara Croft's younger niece! Alicia Vikander runs like a little boy jumping and moaning across the screen. She has nothing of the elegant, super feminine but also tough Lara Croft that I know. This of course has nothing to do with the original games of Tomb Raider, but everything to do with the reboot games of the last few years and this film also strongly resembles that visually. I found it all very bland, the story uninteresting and the puzzles that Laura 2.0 has to solve uninspired. Just like the reboot games, this really isn't 'my cup of tea', so to speak!

I'd much rather see Alicia Vikander than Angelina Jolie honestly. And she also looks a lot more like the Lara Croft in the games actually. Well, physically then, because behavior doesn't turn out very well. At least, I've always thought of the Croft from the games as a confident strong girl who can take on anything, but Vikander comes across much more as a wavering twat who goes through everything willy-nilly and more or less accidentally gets the occasional stunt right. late. Well, with the bike race it's just on the edge, after that it really gets a bit too drowsy as far as I'm concerned.

Same with the rest of the movie too. Yes, there is occasionally a nice scene in it, and also with a nice link to how that was in the games. But the momentum drops a bit too often, perhaps because of that link to the games - that gets just a little too much the upper hand, while in the older example it was more the fun, the sjeu and the panache. More appropriate if you want to make a spectacular film, instead of a somewhat boring and almost documentary-like affair. And then I'm afraid that all this has to be attributed to the director. Perhaps not the right genre for Roar Uthaug.

Apparently it was also the intention that there should be a sequel - or that it will continue, because I don't believe this was a very big success, commercially speaking. But if it continues, then I think Jolie's films should be watched a bit more.
