Lara Croft: Tomb Raider

Nice adventure film with lots of original action scenes and a strong Jolie. I used to play the computer game Tomb Raider many times, and that adventurous atmosphere comes across well in this film. Jolie has the charisma to carry this film and she does it admirably.

Unfortunately, the story is very mediocre and messy. At a certain point there is no more rope to tie. Or just so uninteresting that I didn't really care what it was about, one of the two. The other actors (including Craig in a nice role) are all decent and the film looks nice. Would have liked a slightly better script.

Unfortunately.

This is a bit of a miss though. The story did captivate me. I've never played the games this movie is based on, but I didn't need much to understand this story. West isn't a bad director, but not exactly a good one either.

Jolie knows how to carry some charm with her sometimes. But sometimes she's really bad, and really just makes arrogant faces. The villains also know how to carry a charm, but are somewhat standard.

The effects should have been better. That water was really bad, and the action scenes in the temple were well conceived, but not quite because of the questionable CGI. In the end it turned out to be a great film that has had some inspiration from other films. Among other things, I recognized Raiders of the Lost Ark , in terms of decoration sometimes The Matrix and sometimes even 2001: A Space Odyssey .

Doesn't get higher than 2.5*.

Actually pretty good.

Well, I must confess that I've never really played the games and that's why I'm a bit open-minded about the person of Lara Croft. And then Angelina Jolie soon looks fine - although it may be just a little too much here and there.

Come on, that aside. The story flows smoothly with lots of action, so you won't fall asleep. Credible, no, no more than a Bond film. But everything beautifully portrayed, and that's what the film medium is all about. For me anyway.

Or is it those graceful shorts from Lara? well, sue me - I'll plead guilty.
