From our own DVD collection. Reasonable thriller with a striking role of Glover but also with a terrible acting Quaid. Nothing remains of his performance. Plot is full of illogic. The chemistry between Leto and Glover is the best thing about the whole movie. I used to like this one better.

Switch back to the nineties.

Great thriller. Weird to see how old-fashioned some things look now, although I don't think it was that long ago. Men in cowboy hats, grocery-like shops with those huge ringing cash registers... Yet I have the idea that everything is progressing less quickly than before. If you put on a 23-year-old movie in 1988, it would just be antique.
In terms of atmosphere, a cross between The Silence of The Lambs, Misery and Runaway Train. Ted Levine as deputy, I can never separate him from his role as Buffalo Bill, especially because of that under-mouth talk, yet he has quite a few film roles to his credit.
Surprising that for once a white serial killer has not been chosen. I must confess that I quickly figured out who the killer was, because there was just a little too much emphasis on his 'goodness': My name is Bob Goodall.
It is a pity, by the way, that there are relatively few films from before 2000 on all those streaming services, and what is on it is already known to everyone. I think there's enough choice: silent films, Hitchcock, Bergman, the cult films of John Waters, Giallo films, etc... Would be nice if such a streaming service also takes old people into account.

Great crime thriller!
Decent cast, enough tension and pleasant to follow the story!

The film is from 1997 and although the setting, camera work and acting lead you to believe that the film was shot 10 years earlier, this is certainly not disturbing, it gives a certain atmosphere.

With Quaid, Glover, Ermey and a small part for Fichtner, the film has plenty of good actors, but despite that you won't be blown away by the acting.
It is difficult to describe, calm, no craziness or exaggerated emotions, actually it fits perfectly into the story which also has no extreme outliers but enough tension and keeps your attention.

It soon becomes clear who the killer is, the story is told and it ends how you'd expect. This might make you think there's going to be another big plot twist, but no, just an "all's well that ends well" and yet this was very nice!

The only minus (if I missed it) was that the why wasn't told. Bob was a very friendly guy with a lot of friends, why he started killing and why he had to have Frank and eventually kidnap his son is not clear at all, as well as that no one is ringing the bell that there is a strange boy in a family posted , yet the film is interesting and exciting enough to include this.

If you like a typical "90's thriller story", this film is really recommended!
