Truly a beautiful film in terms of execution. It really is as if you are watching a theater, but the director knows that the advantage of film over theater is that with each new shot the characters can suddenly change positions and that you can immediately place them in a completely different setting. In addition, it is a great mix of real sets (which is also a mix of normal sets and green screen) and pieces shot on location. And in the latter, the architecture cooperates almost magically.

Why not a higher figure? Because I would be lying if I said I was captivated throughout the entire movie. It is very tiring, partly because recently the continuous change in visual approach has not resulted in much speed. It's really a lot of talk about things that I don't think secretly interested most viewers that much. By the way, I didn't even have the idea that the whole plot was that difficult. I think it's quite a simple story, but it's quite difficult for the film to wrap it around it.

Ultimately, definitely a tip for people who are interested in beautiful visuals. But be warned: this is not a tight film. The film is quite consistently inconsistent (what a pretentious sentence). A very nice and atmospheric experiment that many filmmakers could learn something from.

4*

Great.

Even upon rewatch, it remains a very wacky, weird and surprising film. Suzuki really pulls out all the stops to create a weird and entertaining film. You have to put the plot aside for a while because that is clearly not the point.

Cool soundtrack, special acting style and visually well developed. The link to the "opera" from the title is always strongly present in all three. The only thing that disappointed me this time was the ugly 4:3. A heavy format that really doesn't do the images any good, incomprehensible choice.

But otherwise a wonderfully unique and personal film. There is no comparison and it doesn't happen that often to me, but Suzuki itself only makes it cooler. There is something magical about an old grandpa who manages to make one of the weirdest and craziest films.

4.5* and a extensive review

Not my taste, at least not for a whole movie. Each of the scenes works. But all together? Then I don't like it much, especially because they are really isolated scenes but there is little that is innovative in them. The scenes each have too little variation for my taste and the film is somewhat aimless. Visually very nice and fun camera work and special music at times, but this remained interesting for 20 minutes and then no more. 2.0*
