Really nice.

Maneater is the next shark movie that 2022 will throw at us. When the film Shark Bait came out this year, I suddenly had faith in the shark films of 2022. Then that confidence decreased again, but Maneater is allowed join another better variant this year. Not brilliant, but entertaining.

In terms of acting, quite nice and within fifteen minutes we see three shark attacks that all come into focus. They are not remarkably bloody, but quite funny and sometimes mean in tone. Then it remains quiet for half an hour and director Lee settles in his chosen location. I can support this choice of director, because a paradise like this should absolutely not be neglected by the director.

Maneater is clearly the victim of budget constraints, but once the registers open things move very quickly and the corpses can fall nice and fast. There is plenty to experience within the film and with a tropical background it is not difficult to sit back and enjoy the bloodshed. On the other hand, it lacks creativity or quality.

The attacks are not perfectly directed and the characters are not interesting enough to really keep us in its environment. The finale, in which a character who is very loosely linked to the film itself comes to save things for a while, is also a bit ridiculous. Shark itself is also not well animated, but all in all this does not hinder the entertainment too much. Also a very cool poster by the way. To be honest, I had a good time.

I wasn't expecting much but was still disappointed. Because Maneater is by far the worst shark movie I've seen - or at least I don't remember a worse one.

In any case, because there is far too little tension in the whole - it is abundantly clear in advance who the final girl is, and although the attacks are dealt with without delay, there is just a little too much tension, action and gore missing. Too little budget is an easy excuse, not tried is perhaps closer. Just as Trace Adkins' cold-blooded avenger comes across as a bit too easy, and the maneater doesn't behave according to the unwritten rules of the horror movie - he should have at least given one last convulsion. ]

But with all that, and having sat through the whole thing until after the denouement, the film then adds another ten minutes or so of unnecessary crap. Still a very extensive cross for a second part. I'll skip that in advance, thank you very much.

Maneater

Another shark movie with terrible CGI and that doesn't take itself too seriously. The story was just okay and some of the actors still did a good job. I especially liked Harlan. But the presentation of the shark was severely substandard. Agree with what stinissen says. The shark is central to these kinds of films, so invest in the digital shark and you will already get a much better film.

1.5 stars.
