Man of Steel plot

"You will believe that a man can fly."

Before the dying planet of Krypton explodes, scientist Jor-El sends his only son, the newborn Kal-El, to planet Earth. The baby's spaceship crashes into Jonathan and Martha Kent's pasture. They raise Kal-El and give him a new name: Clark Kent. Clark grows up as a normal kid, but knows he's different from other kids. After all, not everyone can lift a school bus. In later life, he still struggles with his identity, though the search for his true self is a lot easier when General Zod, a surviving general of Krypton, attacks Earth with a small army. Will Clark join his ilk, or will he commit to his new home planet?

“Hi, Lois Lane. Welcome to The Planet.”

“Glad to be here Lois.”

Decent Superman movie. We are really presented with an origin story and the script is well put together. Man of Steel does lack some flair and humor, and really only the very last scene shows a bit of the Superman vibe that I expected. But the film isn't bad at all, and Cavill, Adams, Shannon, Crowe, Lane, and Costner get on well with the material they're given. The terrible action scenes at the end are a big minus and the CGI is insanely bad.

Saw the movie again and this is a depressing movie. Batman may be dark, Iron Man is a rich playboy and Spider-Man a teenager with the necessary humor. But Superman must be a hero. What people look up to (in the film). The man in the cape who comes to rescue you from disaster. Man of Steel has unfortunately become a colorless melancholy film. All the fun has been sucked out of it.

Zack Snyder is especially adored by DC fans, but it's not that his contribution has led to a great franchise with fun movies. If only the fans are looked at and not the general public, you should not be surprised that the films will not be a success. Maybe still at the box office, but certainly not critical.

Bring some more color to the film, shorten the film and now and then some humor certainly won't hurt the film.

Growing up as the son of Jonathan [Kevin Costner] and Martha [Diane Lane], Clark Kent [Henry Cavill] discovers as a child that he possesses unprecedented, inhuman powers. Jonathan decides to tell Clark the truth, but makes it clear to Clark that he should use his powers only when the time is right. That time comes when General Zod [Michael Shannon] demands that "an alien visitor" be surrendered to him, or else. Zod is basically looking for the Codex, which will allow him to take control of Krypton, but Clark obviously won't let that happen just like that. A more free-spirited and independent Lois Lane [Amy Adams] shows up as a love interest in this routine SF action flick with a drab Cavill and a lot of hot air in the form of explosions and crazy action sequences where entire buildings are smashed to rubble.
