Inferno plot
"Left for dead. Burning for revenge"
A pickup truck thunders through the sweltering Nevada desert, leaving behind a cloud of dust. Inside the car are Matt, Jesse and Peter, the sons of Ramsey Hogan, the leader of the much-dreaded Hogan family. Ramsey runs a crime syndicate from his high-security camp in the desert town of Inferno. Inferno is terrorized not only by the Hogan brothers, but also by the Heathers, a group of young drug couriers. The Hogan brothers brutally insult, shoot and assault Eddie Lomax, then leave him for dead...

After A fistfull of dollars, this is another ode to Yojimbo that I see. Wondering if Van Damme will do as well as Clint Eastwood.
This film with Van Damme is certainly not a masterpiece. Better films have been made in this genre and the whole thing does have a bad B-movie edge. But on the other hand, the film fortunately does not take itself too seriously and in combination with nice references and supporting roles this has become quite a pleasant film. Van Damme's fights aren't really that good. This is the Van Damme as he walked around for quite some time: a worn out drunk who wants to get his life back on track. The humor does work. This must be a cross between the old Jackie Chan movies (the humor, not the fights), a western and an episode of The A-Team.
Still a fun, but wrong film that will undoubtedly have an audience.

It is very easy to become critical of films like this one and that makes little sense in terms of content. It's also just a mediocre plot with lackluster action and revenge on a group of preschoolers who aren't threatening anywhere. All this is poured with a touch of humor, which unfortunately never really hits the spot. The film does have a good atmosphere and interesting characters, but it doesn't come out well enough, unfortunately! It's a remake of and a tribute to Yojimbo, but I doubt it's a tribute to talk about.

In itself, this is quite an entertaining film. You actually expect a good action movie, but nothing could be further from the truth. The film has funny moments, thanks to the 'types'. 'Why does he say everything twice? I don't know, I don't know..' Hilarious. Or if the tough Van Damme has the applepie on and wants to run away but then knocks the door (intentionally) against his head. I broke down 
!
But I do not know. Still, I would have preferred the film to be more serious, with more action, more fights, more stunts, more suspense and if it has a beautiful woman in it, a touch of romance. But on the other hand, the humor also has something. Inferno is a pretty entertaining movie, but definitely not good. Much more had lived there. 2.5*
