Hancock plot

"Bad behavior. Bad attitude. Real hero."

Great power brings great responsibility and everyone knows that. Everyone except Hancock. A nervous, sarcastic and misunderstood chap full of contradictions, his well-intentioned heroic behavior may well serve its purpose, saving countless lives, but also leave an impressive trail of destruction. The public is finally fed up, until the day he saves the life of PR director Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman). Then the sardonic superhero begins to realize that he might have a vulnerable side after all. Facing that could be Hancock's greatest challenge yet.

Had read somewhere that the trailer didn't exactly give a good picture of the film. Luckily I stopped reading about this film after that.

I thought the beginning of the film was very successful. Found Smith really convincing and strong. Funny that when he corrects himself after a while, he immediately loses a piece of his charm. In any case, the drunken, burly Hancock was cool to follow.

The beginning is mainly funny and often rather short-sighted funny.

The twist halfway through is very successful in my opinion. Didn't exactly see it coming and was looking forward to the twist

Berg also succeeds quite well in changing the atmosphere in the film and maybe just because he doesn't try to do it too subtly, I thought it was quite manageable. Otherwise you get those comedy/dramas that completely collapse halfway through.

The second part is slightly less than the beginning but manages to keep my attention remarkably well for a superhero film. So don't think this one is 13 in a dozen, with an anti-hero that really supernaturally puts down his character in the beginning and a radical twist that leaves a small 2-in-1 effect.

Visually also very good. Nice to see this "off-the-wrist-but-absolutely-no-Dogme" camera work applied here. Makes especially the action scenes a lot more impressive and less syrupy.

Great movie, both comic and superhero front. However, it doesn't get really hilarious or impressive anywhere.

3.5*

Hancock a terrible film that failed to surprise me on any front. Watched him with great difficulty. Nowhere funny and a plot that is sleep-inducing. Not sure what Will and Charlize were thinking when they accepted this role?

He is cute! He is really different. A playful twist on the superhero genre.
