Flight of the Phoenix plot

"Out of the ashes, hope will rise."

A cargo plane crashes in a sandstorm in the Gobi Desert, with about 10 people on board. One of the passengers is an aircraft designer who comes up with the idea of building a new plane using the parts of the crashed plane. With this they want to escape before the water and food runs out.

Very satisfied with this movie!

Survival, adventure and creativity with a crashed plane. Flight of the Phoenix brought a successful combination of these.

The group consisted of fun characters who regularly clash with each other: Dennis Quaid as a tough and quirky pilot, 1 woman among all those guys, and a nerd-like aircraft designer with a good plan. I found the revelation at the end of this last one quite surprising.

Not being completely alone in the desert is conveniently solved by problems they face with a dangerous nomadic gang. This creates variety and tension.

The question is also whether the new aircraft will be airworthy or not...

Not to be forgotten is the very good soundtrack to this film. It started off right with "I've been everywhere" by Johnny Cash. This made for a beautiful intro to the film.

I also plan to see the original 1965 Flight of the Phoenix.

Yes if you choose to see an action/adventure film... then you can see it coming a bit, no, then you can expect that things have been exaggerated considerably, and that it can sometimes be a series of impossibilities. Well, that was exactly what happened. Is that a sign of weakness; no, I don't think so. Is it insurmountable, no. A dramatic effect is soon achieved by focusing more on the rigors of such a crash on the survivors. Then it would have been a totally different movie; after all, the more realistically the story was presented, the more implausible and ludicrous all further developments would be. Because... a whole new plane had to be manufactured from all the remaining parts. But it's not a 'drama'. And that's a choice. I have swallowed all these craziness like sweet cake. Delicious.

Mediocre.

Pretty uninspired adventure film for the weekday evening. The quality is not high, far from it, but watched with moderate attention and then it slowly but surely ripples on.

The cast contains quite a few well-known heads, but the Dennis Quaids of this world don't warm me up. Such a Giovanni Ribisi with a somewhat more eccentric character should give things some momentum, in vain. There is also no originality or individuality from the director's chair. Apparently this is a remake, maybe because of that?
