Certainly not Clint Eastwood's best film and the story is perhaps also a bit bland. It is certainly not bad and the film also looks good. The ending (scene in the plane) was also nice and was even fascinating. Anyway, Clint Eastwood has starred in much better movies (particularly in the 60's and 70's) and this is nothing more than a snack with him.

Nice film in which an American fighter pilot is ordered to steal a new Russian plane. The first half starts out as a somewhat long-winded spy thriller. The second half contains the most action and tension. Sometimes a bit disturbing that the Russians also speak English. Certainly not Clint Eastwood's best, but entertaining enough for 3.0 stars.

Wonderful movie.

In any case, because of the nostalgic cold war event, where it was actually clear that the technological lead of the West was enormous, there was always the fear that the Russians would be smarter. And here it is worked out very well - and fairly accurate to the book, too, although I have to say it's been at least thirty years since I read that. It left some impression though.

Also very strong is the wonderfully monomaniac way in which the film tells the story. Just an hour of spying stuff first, and then an hour of flying. No unnecessary distractions, no side plots, no unnecessary rambling in between. The scene in which Clint walks to the plane has always stayed with me.

That the story here and there falls short in credibility, tjsa. Not really anything to worry about, I think. Too bad the use of the languages is so sloppy - in that other late-cold-war film, [url=http://www.moviemeter.nl/film/1826] The Hunt for Red October (1990)[/ url] that was just a bit nicer.
