Empire plot
Rome, 44 BC. Julius Caesar returns to Rome after his triumph in Spain. There he finds a state in decline, governed by a power-corrupted Senate. Blood will be shed, and then a man will be left with the arduous task of running the Roman Empire... Octavius, Caesar's 17-year-old cousin, is one of the Romans who cheers Caesar on his return from Spain. But among the select company of nobles that surrounds Caesar, unrest, anger, and resentment smolder. Just days later, on March 15, Caesar falls victim to a conspiracy that also involves the senators Cassius and Brutus; 23 stab wounds end the life of the celebrated dictator. With his last powers, Caesar names his impulsive and inexperienced cousin Octavius as his successor. General Mark Antony makes his own claim to the throne and does not accept that someone who has grown up in luxury and who has never seen a battlefield up close will run away with the loot. In this he is supported by Caesar's assassins, who want to make short work of all the descendants of the dictator.
