I've seen it for the 3rd time and still like it. Nice bad villain, a good dose of gore, nice and dark and a cool anti-hero. Credibility should not be expected too much in a superhero fantasy like this one, it remains comical. Neeson is fine as Darkman, just like Mc Dormand (and she certainly doesn't look that bad!). With cameos from Sam Raimi (doctor at the beginning who walks with the doctor who shows how she relieved Neeson of his pain) and Bruce Campbell (at the end). By the way, Bruce was supposed to play Darkman first, but I'm glad it turned out to be Liam Neeson.

Certain effects, such as blue screen, are a bit too obviously fake, but for a 1990 film it's perfectly fine. Darkman's makeup itself is fantastic. I saw a reference to Robocop in an imdb review and subconsciously thought of it too, probably because of the setting (abandoned industrial buildings) and the sadism of the villains. Typical Raimi is besides over the top action that the gore gets funny, at least once it's the turn of the villains (especially the guy who has to stick his head above the manhole cover in the middle of the road)!

Sam Raimi doesn't get the rights to The Shadow and then creates his own pulp superhero. It actually fits perfectly into this hybrid of tragic monster and superhero movie.

Liam Neeson is in the right place and knows how to embrace the fun. The villains are always immediately recognizable with their villainous faces, with a good Larry Drake leading the way. A bit dated here and there, but always with the visual flair of the director of Evil Dead.

Revision works wonders. 95 tight minutes flew by. Used to be more impressed by it, but it still stands proudly.

Still: 4*and
