I saw this film back in the late 80s (rented it on VHS from the video store back then) and I quite liked it (especially because of Melanie Griffith's performance, which I used to like). Now that it's airing again on AMC, I've rewatched it.

The story, which revolves around a female robot called "Cherry 2000" that has been hit by a short circuit (Pamela Gidley, who played her, looked beautiful) and that Sam Treadwell treats as his lover, was quite enjoyable. The same goes for the execution of the story, which takes place in a kind of apocalyptic world (Zone 7) where dangers lurk as Sam Treadwell (nicely played by David Andrews) and E. Johnson (nicely played by Melanie Griffith, with bright red hair, who at least looked nice back then) search for a new "Cherry 2000" to replace the one that malfunctioned (which was beyond repair). The film is entertaining and easy to watch, and also contains a fair amount of action. There's also some dark humor here and there, thanks in large part to Tim Thompson's brilliant and occasionally rather crude portrayal of the villain "Lester." The ending was of course cliché and very predictable (Sam Treadwell ultimately chooses E. Johnson, whom he has fallen in love with, instead of the "Cherry 2000"), but it was still fun.

All in all just a nice and above all entertaining typical 80s Action / Science Fiction film that is easy to watch and with approximately 90 minutes never really gets boring.

PS Laurence Fishburne does appear in this film as a sort of lawyer, but his role is very minor and he only appears in a single scene at the beginning of the film.

I came across this film on some list of "the worst 100 movies ever," or something like that. Well, of course I had to see it. And yes, there's some truth to it—but on the other hand, there are also a few truly memorable scenes. It's perhaps mainly because the story is so utterly mindless, and because of that, almost all the action scenes—no matter how spectacular—fall flat. And well, the actors also make a bit of a mess of it.

Worst movie ever, well, no. And not bad in that special way that makes it good. But fun to see. If only for the beautiful location for the most ridiculous stunt scene ever—the one with the car and the giant crane. Apparently, that's part of the Hoover Dam. You have to be brave to pull something like that—CGI wasn't that good back then, I thought. Not for me.

A Mad Max-esque clone in which Sam Treadwell enlists a mercenary to search for a sex doll in the desert, because his own "Cherry 2000" has died. The goal is to insert the memory chip into another doll. This sounds incredibly ridiculous from the start. Then follows an action film with some stunts, a clique of baddies living in a kind of amusement park. And the ending is excruciatingly bad, you've been warned. I did enjoy the sets and the costumes, which still captured my imagination reasonably well. The cinematography was quite good. For the acting and story, this is not worth watching.
