The Berlin File is the South Korean answer to the American Bourne trilogy. Once again, the Koreans don't disappoint, delivering a solid action film. They manage to present things differently than most Hollywood action films, and that's what makes it so fresh. The atmosphere is palpable from the start, but it's a shame that the vibrant city of Berlin isn't as vibrant in the film. The Berlin File is a bit more complex than a "shoot 'em up" film, setting it apart from your average action flick.

Great performances from all the actors; there's a balance that's important in these kinds of films. Often in action films, you see an actor who's completely out of place and irritating. Most of the actors don't look familiar to me. Jung-woo Ha, however, plays a really cool role, a Korean I enjoy watching fight.

The Berlin File is an above-average action film. Anyone tired of standard Hollywood action will definitely benefit from watching this one. There's nothing we haven't seen before, but it's all well-crafted. The story and the language used in the film keep it interesting and ensure there are virtually no dull scenes.

The Korean Bourne?

An entertaining film set primarily in Berlin rather than Seoul, which also boasts a wealth of beautiful images, many of which feature recognizable locations I encountered during my vacation there. It starts off pleasantly calm, like an espionage/conspiracy thriller, but later there's plenty of room for a hearty dose of action. The subject matter is, however, overused, and the film tends to go on autopilot at times, but this gimmick doesn't detract from the entertainment.

North and South Korean spies fighting each other in Berlin! It couldn't be more bizarre. Surprisingly, it turns out to be exciting and quite suspenseful, thanks in part to the brisk pace and some masterfully shot action sequences. The plot is quite complex and repeatedly threatens to overwhelm the viewer, but thankfully, there's always a good fight to take a break from all the intrigue. The climax (featuring some rather ugly CGI shots) is disappointing, but until then, this is entertaining enough.
