Sterke, brute, compromisloze misdaadfilm.
Strong, brutal, uncompromising crime film. The story of the rider on the white horse who must rescue a little girl from the clutches of a gang of drug-dealing mobsters. The film strikes a good balance between the dramatic backgrounds of both characters and gory action scenes that only South Koreans can capture. The cell phone obsession flares up again and the number of scenes with cell phone dialogues is skyrocketing. Visually great... a scene in which the hero jumps through a window followed by the camera was really And at the end all brakes are released. Another fine example of crime film, but not for the faint of heart due to violence involving children.
More of that please!

Nice crime/action thriller that reminds a bit of Léon in terms of story, but has a different level in terms of style, depth and quality. The characters are a lot more superficial, with the exception of the protagonist, and it's all about the action here. sinterklaas describes it very aptly as a mix between Léon and Taken. It reminds a bit of a Hollywood movie, but with some martial arts-like fights here and there. The film itself is fine, but it tries to be so terribly flashy sentimental (again in the Hollywood way), which doesn't seem to fit at all with the film and the story and therefore also fails quite a bit.
For us westerners it is a bit difficult to tell the Asian faces, let alone the Asian names, apart, and that can cause some confusion. As long as you know that our main character gets involved in a drug war between two gangs who each want to have a monopoly in the city, it's doable. Of course, the police are also involved, so that the protagonist has to deal with three parties. Especially as a crime/action thriller it is very entertaining. 3*

On the list of movies from South Korea that I've seen in recent years (around 15), there was not one that I ultimately found insufficient, and that tradition is continued here with Ajeossi, better known in Europe as the Man from Nowhere from 2010.
The film tells the unoriginal story of a ''Loner'' who, after witnessing or being involved in a crime against a vulnerable person or group in society, retaliates against the perpetrator(s).
A fact that we have come across many times in the past in the cinema, such as in Dirty Harry and the Death Wish series and more recently in Law Abiding Citizen and Man on Fire.
That is not the part on which the Man from Nowhere scores points, no, it is mainly the performance that impressed me quite a bit.
The beautiful images and locations, the strong acting of protagonist Won Bin who hits just the right note with his playing, just like the fantastic Sae-ron Kim as his girl next door, the colorful collection of both villains and policemen who are a lot less one-dimensional as usual in this genre, and all this accompanied by relentless action scenes and well-dosed suspense.
All this makes The Man From Nowhere an excellent and very entertaining film, so it is not surprising that Hollywood has announced a remake.
