On a budget of $24 million, Scream earned $140 million at the worldwide box office, a healthy return for an R-rated 18+ film. A major contributing factor to the success of the latest movie in the Scream franchise has been attributed to the young cast who breathed new life, or death, into Woodsboro.
Franchise favourites Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette all featured, but the plot centred around a new batch of teens, led by Melissa Barrera's Carpenter.
The actress will again be the main protagonist in the next movie which will be the sixth in the franchise. It will take place in New York City as the characters attempt to move on from the terrifying events which took place in Woodsboro in 2022's Scream.
In the trailer, we see Ghostface terrorising the streets and apartments of The Big Apple, and he/she is bolder than ever, too, carrying out attacks in well-lit shops and even the New York City subway.
Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding and Courtney Cox will all reprise their roles from the previous movie for Scream 6, but one major name who won't be appearing is franchise hero Neve Campbell, who dropped out of the project due to an insufficient salary offer from the producers.
Hayden Panettiere reprises her role despite her apparent death in Scream 4.
Newcomers include Dermot Mulroney, Henry Czerny, Samara Weaving, and Tony Revolori.
