There are three major new movie releases in U.S. theaters this week, and we have all the details for you.
2023 has been a huge year for cinema, with the summer period flourishing thanks to the releases of Barbie and Oppenheimer. The movies were released around the same time and many theater-goers actually did the double-feature, which was affectionately named 'Barbenheimer'.
Barbie became the most successful movie ever directed by a solo female director, earning $1.41 billion at the box office, while Oppenheimer has made $934m. No pressure for the movies that follow then...
New Movie Releases this week
As we approach 2024, several huge movies will be released before the end of the year, including three this week.
One of the most highly-anticipated releases of 2023 concerns the new entry in The Exorcist franchise - The Exorcist: Believer. It will act as a direct sequel to the original movie and sees Ellen Burstyn reprise her role as Regan's mother, while Leslie Odom Jr. and Ann Dowd have joined the main cast.
The official premise reads:
'When his daughter, Angela, and her friend Katherine, show signs of demonic possession, it unleashes a chain of events that forces single father Victor Fielding to confront the nadir of evil. Terrified and desperate, he seeks out Chris MacNeil, the only person alive who's witnessed anything like it before.'
The Exorcist: Believer cast: Ellen Burstyn, Leslie Odom Jr., Ann Dowd, Jennifer Nettles, Norbert Leo Butz, Lidya Jewett, and Olivia Marcum.
Foe is a science fiction psychological thriller based on the novel of the same name by Ian Reid.
The official premise reads:
'The lives of a married couple are turned upside down when a stranger arrives at their farm and informs the husband he will be sent to a large space station, and his wife will be left in the company of a robot.'
Foe cast: Saoirse Ronan, Paul Mescal and Aaron Pierre.
There is already a bit of controversy surrounding the movie as the plot is very similar to that of a recent Black Mirror episode, but the novel in which the movie is based upon was released in 2018.
She Came to Me is a romantic comedy movie directed by Rebecca Miller.
The official premise reads:
'Composer Steven Lauddem is creatively blocked and unable to finish the score for his big comeback opera. At the behest of his wife Patricia, he sets out in search of inspiration.'
She Came to Me cast: Peter Dinklage, Marisa Tomei, Joanna Kulig, Brian d'Arcy James, and Anne Hathaway.
