Rian Johnson is back working on Knives Out 3 now that the writer strike in Hollywood has ended.
Knives Out, released in 2019, received critical acclaim for its acting, directing and screenplay, with the screenplay being nominated for an Academy Award.
It was also a commercial success, earning $311 million on a budget of $40m.
In March of 2021, it was announced that Netflix had purchased the rights for two Knives Out sequels for $469m, with Johnson returning to direct and Daniel Craig returning as Benoit Blanc.
The sequel was called Glass Onion and was released just before Christmas in 2022, while the third movie doesn't have a title yet.
When asked by The Wrap for an update on Knives Out 3, Johnson responded: "It’s coming along. I obviously couldn’t work during the strike, and now that it’s over, I’m diving in full force, and so it’s coming along. I’ve got the premise, I’ve got the setting, I’ve got what the movie is in my head. It’s just a matter of writing the damn thing."
The first two movies featured all-star casts led by Craig as Benoit Blanc, with that character set to be featured again.
Knives Out 3 will be in America
Glass Onion took the story of Blanc to a remote private island in Greece, but Johnson has already confirmed that part three will return to the United States.
"I want it to be in America," he told Insider.
"There's a lot of tempting things of going to — Paris or the Alps — but I feel it's really important that these are American movies.
"Bringing it back to somewhere a little closer to home I think could be a good thing for the next one."
