Neve Campbell might be free to return to the Scream franchise as Sidney Prescott.
The franchise hero had been in every single movie in the series since the original Scream in 1996. However, during pre-production for Scream VI, she announced that she would not be returning for the latest instalment due to a pay dispute with the studio.
In her opinion, the salary offer was below what she deemed acceptable as she had carried the franchise for so long.
"Sadly I won’t be making the next Scream film," she told Deadline.
"As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream. I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.
"It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me.
"I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years."
Scream VI went ahead without Campbell and was a critical and commercial success.
However, new developments within her career might lead to a return, as it was recently announced that she would not be featuring in season three of The Lincoln Lawyer as a main cast member.
With her schedule now looking more open, Scream producers can hope to bring her back as long as they pay her what she deserves.
Campbell will always be Scream's Final Girl
Even though the franchise has moved on to another group of heroes battling Ghostface, her co-star Skeet Ulrich says Campbell will always be Scream's "final girl".
“She’s the final girl, no doubt. But yeah, I think she misses it, all of it and everything," the Scream actor, who returned as Billy Loomis in Scream VI, explained.
"This is new to me — I did and then a big jump, we didn’t have this kind of thing obviously because of the pandemic for , so this is like years and years’ of growth. So I think she has more to miss. To me, it’s new and exciting.”
