Nieuwe projecten

De nieuwe film van Christopher Nolan is in productie gegaan. Tot mijn grote vreugde heeft hij voor The Prestige gekozen. Zijn broer, die ook al het verhaal van Memento schreef, bewerkte het boek van Christopher Priest tot een scenario en voor de hoofdrollen wordt aan Christian Bale en Hugh Jackman gedacht.

Ik hoop eigenlijk dat deze film het werk van Christopher Priest wat meer in de schijnwerpers zal plaatsen: het is één van mijn favoriete schrijvers, maar helaas kom ik zelden of nooit iemand tegen die al van hem gehoord heeft. Ik ben dan ook zeer benieuwd hoe ze The Prestige gaan aanpakken, want de intriges die hij in zijn boeken weeft, zijn niet makkelijk te verfilmen.

In ieder geval eindelijk weer een project waar ik enthousiast over kan zijn.

En de nieuwe Bond is bekend: Daniel Craig uit oa. 'Layer Cake' en de nieuwe Spielberg 'Munich'.

Heb nog niets van hem gezien. Of hij een geloofwaardige en dus goede Bond kan neerzetten blijft de vraag.

Thekla Reuten gaat de hoofdrol spelen in Highlander 5! Lijkt me stug dat deze film haar doorbraak in Hollywood kan betekenen, maar niet geschoten is altijd mis. Ze speelt de vrouw van de highlander gespeeld door Adrian Paul (van de serie en deel 4).

Dustin Hoffman speelt mee in vervolg op 'Father of the Bride'.

De Amerikaanse acteur Dustin Hoffman gaat meespelen in een komische familiefilm. Het gaat om een vervolg op 'Father of the Bride'. De film is bovendien van de hand van dezelfde scenarist, Charles Shyer. Dat schrijft Variety donderdag.

De 68-jarige Hoffman, wiens acteerprestaties in 1980 en 1989 bekroond werden met een Oscar, zal in de huid kruipen van een directeur van een platenfirma, die gedwongen wordt om zelf het huishouden te regelen wanneer zijn echtgenote plots beslist om hem te verlaten.

'Father of the Bride' kwam in 1991 uit. Toen speelde acteur Steve Martin de hoofdrol. In 1995 kwam er een vervolg op de film. Ook toen was Martin van de partij. (belga & hln.be)

David Ayer Enlists A "Wild Bunch"

David Ayer is in final negotiations to direct an update of "The Wild Bunch" for Warner Bros. Pictures based on his own script reports Reuters.

"Wild Bunch," originally directed by Sam Peckinpah in 1969, followed an aging group of outlaws looking for a last score in the fading American West.

Ayer's update is described as a thriller involving heists, drug cartels and the CIA, set in contemporary Mexico.

Typisch een film die je niet moet remaken.

The Sandman!!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with the news of the weekend. The first of (possibly) 3 villains in SPIDER-MAN 3 has been revealed by Sony. It's not a surprise to us here. We've been reporting that Church was going to be playing Sandman since April and Mary Jane herself said that one of the villains was going to be Sandman a month or so ago. Now the real the question is Topher Grace. Who is he playing? Did Dunst really let it all slip when she said the villains were Venom and Sandman? The sources who gave us the heads up on Sandman in the first place all seem sure that Grace is playing Electro, so... Who knows? I'm sure we'll be seeing a Daily Bugel report soon... but will it have Grace with a drippy black costume or shooting electricity from his fingers?

Film over de moord op Lennon

Lindsay Lohan en Jared Leto zullen te zien zijn in een film over de moord op zanger John Lennon 25 jaar geleden. De voormalige Beatle werd in december 1980 doodgeschoten voor zijn huis in Manhattan.

De opnames voor de film, die 'Chapter 27' gaat heten, zullen in januari volgend jaar van start gaan in New York. Het zal een psychologische studie worden van Lennon's moordenaar, Mark Chapman. De titel verwijst naar de 26 hoofdstukken van het boek 'The Catcher in the Rye' van J.D. Salinger. Chapman zei dat hij Lennon heeft vermoord na het lezen van dit boek.

De rol van Chapman zal vertolkt worden door Jared Leto ('Alexander', 'Requiem for a Dream'). Lindsay Lohan ('Freaky Friday', 'Herbie Fully Loaded') zal de fictieve rol spelen van een Lennon fan die bevriend was met Chapman. Wie Lennon en zijn vrouw Yoko Ono zullen vertolken in de film is nog niet bekend.

De film wordt het eerste project van regisseur Jarett Schaeffer, die ook het script schreef. De productie wordt gefinancierd door de Canadese filmmaatschappij Peache Arch entertainment.

ja, dit heb ik ook gelezen op teletekst, wat doet Lindsay Lohan in deze film. Jared Leto daarentegen ben ik heel blij om.

George A. Romero officially slips behind the wheel of Stephen King's BUICK!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with an update on George Romero. When I interviewed the man a few weeks ago, he told me that his adaptation of Stephen King's FROM A BUICK 8 was pretty close to being a done deal... at least a lot more so than THE GIRL WHO LOVED TOM GORDON. Now it seems he's taken his next step toward production. Variety announced that Chesapeake Films is going into production soon with Romero at the helm.

The Terminator" Turns To Television

FOX has ordered to a pilot for a new TV series based on "The Terminator" film franchise reports The Guardian.

"The Sarah Connor Chronicles" tracks what happened to the female heroinne of the first two films after she went on the run at the end of the second movie.

Although exact details of the plotline have yet to be revealed, its confirmed that the series would have a "connection" to the film franchise but added that it would not affect plans for a fourth big screen outing.

The series would likely air in the 2006-07 season, and John Connor will definitely feature.

"Dead Ringers" Doubles On Television

Empire Online reports that David Cronenberg's 1988 cult thriller "Dead Ringers" is set to be turned into a new series for the HBO network.

'Ringers' starred Jeremy Irons as twin gynaecologists who go insane after falling for the same woman. It's not known how much of the film will feature in the show.

Wesley Strick ("Doom", "Cape Fear") is writing the pilot, which Cronenberg ("A History of Violence") will direct. Cronenberg is currently working on an adaptation of Martin Amis' 1991 novel "London Fields".

"Robocop" Gets The Remake Treatment

Three films, some cable TV shows and a short lived series aren't enough to keep Paul Verhoeven's cybernetic creation down, now word comes from CHUD that a remake of the science fiction classic is in the works.

According to that lovable site of booze, boobs and tasteful bisexuality (is there any other kind?), their "source is usually quite reliable with intel, as unfortunate as that may be in this case... producer Michael De Luca and Sony have apparently decided to dismantle the scrap and solder it back together for a 21st century version of the heavy-steppin' police weapon... Word is that original Robocop director Paul Verhoeven wisely wants nothing to do with it."

Set in a crime-ridden futuristic Detroit, the original film told of a mortally wounded law officer becomes part of a corporate experiment in which his remains are encased in a robotic suit and unleashed on the city's felons.

Remake koorts gaat rustig door. Ik wou dat ze eens een goed medicijn verzonnen...

Heb het boek in de kast staan; zeker niet onaardig. Qua fysieke gebeurtenissen enigzins vergelijkbaar met American Psycho. Qua schrijfstijl enigzins afwijkend daarvan. Ben benieuwd. De film zal qua setting meer de Less Then Zero kant opgaan denk ik.

Heb het boek ook in de kast staan. Mooie mozaiek vertelling, maar zeker niet Ellis' beste. Zou eerder Glamarama zo snel mogenlijk verfilmd zien.

Die staat al en tijdje op 'pre production' op IMDB. Roger Avery (die Ellis' The RUles of Attraction verfilmde) is ermee bezig...

Weet iemand iets over Kusturica's plannen over het verfilmen van G. G. Marquez' roman "De hersft van de patriarch"? Hij was dat een tijdje geleden al van plan, met Marlon Brando in de hoofdrol, maar omdat deze stierf, ging het niet door (of iets dergelijks). Nu zou Kusturica weer samengekomen zijn met Marquez?

Johnny Depp speelt in volgende film Peter Weir heroïneverslaafde.

De Amerikaanse Hollywoodacteur Johnny Depp neemt in de volgende film van Peter Weir de hoofdrol voor zijn rekening. Depp speelt een Australische heroïneverslaafde die uit de gevangenis ontsnapt en in India een nieuw leven begint als arts. De opnames voor de prent Shantaram beginnen eind 2006.

De 42-jarige Johnny Depp is een van de meest begeerde acteurs in Hollywood. Hij was laatst te zien in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory en leende zijn stem voor de animatiefilm Corpse Bride van Tim Burton. Het is de eerste keer dat Weir, die zijn sporen in het verleden verdiende met films als Dead Poets Society (1989) en The Truman Show (1998), en Depp samenwerken. (svr & hln.be)

Bret Easton Ellis Gets Another Film

Palm-Star Entertainment has optioned the film rights to Bret Easton Ellis' latest novel "Lunar Park" reports Variety. The book itself the author has described as "the most personal book I've written".

"Lunar Park" is Ellis' most autobiographical work, in which the author-narrator is a narcissistic, self-pitying drug fiend who gets a shot at redemption when movie star Jayne Dennis, an old flame, offers to marry him. The deal is that he must now connect with Robby, the son he has shunned for 11 years.

"Lunar Park" will be the fifth of Ellis' novels to be adapted to the bigscreen. "Less Than Zero," "American Psycho" and "The Rules Of Attraction" have all been released, and "Glamorama" is in development.

The "Watchmen" Get Back In Action

After falling out of development back in June, the film version of the DC Comics 12-part limited series "Watchmen" created by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, has found a home at Warner Bros. Pictures says The Hollywood Reporter.

Producers Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin remain attached to the project, but screenwriter David Hayter and director Paul Greengrass have left. Paramount had originally been aiming for a summer shoot in London but budgetary concerns stopped it from moving into production.

Warner's is seeking a new writer and director at present. The film has been in development for many years, the earliest being way back in 1989 when Terry Gilliam and Sam Hamm were attached.
