Jodie Foster kiest voor gangsterdrama.

Jodie Foster kiest na haar rol in de thriller Panic Room (2002) weer voor een spannende film. Samen met Denzel Washington en Clive Owen speelt ze, in een regie van Spike Lee, in de thriller Inside Man, zo bericht het filmblad Variety.

Het verhaal gaat over een bankrover en een politieagent, die in een gijzeldrama verwikkeld raken en een psychologisch duel leveren. Foster speelt een juriste, die ingrijpt in de zenuwslopende reddingsactie. Spike Lee wil deze zomer met de opnames starten. De volgende film die op het programma van Jodie Foster staat, is de thriller Flight Plan.

Nieuwe Belgische film "De Mantis" in première.

In een tiental bioscopen gaat de nieuwe Belgische lange speelfilm, "De Mantis", in première. "De Mantis" is een magisch-realistische fantasy-prent over Sylvia, een mooie jonge verliefde vrouw die aan haar mantis-instinct ten onder dreigt te gaan.

Marc Levie schreef het verhaal samen met Erik Vandebosch, een Luikse schrijver van Vlaamse komaf. De hoofdrollen worden gespeeld door Lou Broclain, Yann Cheéy en Sacha Kollich, alle drie acteurs uit de stal van de Franse talentscout Dominique Besnéhard. Het camerawerk werd geleid door de Vlaamse chef foto Michel Van Laer. Voor de 21-jarige Lou Broclain is het haar eerste hoofdrol in een langspeelfilm. (dwm)

Paramount maakt Marvel-deal

Paramount Pictures heeft een exclusieve en lucratieve deal gesloten met de Marvel Comics Group om films uit te mogen brengen over de overgebleven strip-personages. Een aantal van deze personages zijn al 'bezet': Spider-Man ligt bijvoorbeeld bij Sony, Iron Man bij New Line en X-Men bij Fox.

Het Marvel-archief betaat uit nog vele duizenden personages, waarvan Captain America en Nick Fury de eersten zijn die door Paramount naar de bioscopen zullen worden gebracht.

De filmmaatschappij krijgt de rechten voor de marketing en distributie van 10 films, waarvan de eerste binnen twee jaar klaar zal zijn. Voor maximaal bereik is overeengekomen dat geen van de film de R-rating zal krijgen.

Captain America is al op de markt geweest (2 x 1979 en 1 x in 1991). Hopelijk nemen ze het deze maal wat ernstiger op, want de vorige waren regelrechte flops. Nochtans, met een beetje goede wil zou men hier een prachtfilm kunnen van maken.

Sony wil zes Spider-Man films

Op de website Scifi.com liet regisseur

Sam Raimi weten dat er in totaal zes

Spider-man films in de planning staan.

Hij voegde er aan toe dat hij interesse

heeft om al deze zes Sony Pictures-

films te willen regisseren.Raimi liet

niet doorschemeren wie naast Thomas

Haden Church de slechterik zal gaan

spelen in Spider-Man 3.

Dit biedt veel mogelijkheden: Kingpin, Scorpion, Lizard, Venom, Carnage als vijanden

en hopelijk ook veel vrienden van spider-man: dr strange, x-men, dare devil enz.

Die Raimi is snel om, tijdje terug zou hij stoppen na 3 delen. The Sandman zie ik graag als villain en natuurlijk de mogelijke Green Goblin omdat James Franco de rol van Harry Osborn vertolkt.

Raimi ruikt geld waarschijnlijk.

Daar hoeft hij het niet meer voor te doen...

Oliver Stone gaat 'The Night Watchman' regisseren. Dit is een film over een agent die tegen de corruptie in gaat. Oorspronkelijk ging Spike Lee die regisseren met Keanu Reeves in de hoofdrol. Maar hij liet het project vallen om Inside Man te gaan maken.

Bryan Singer maakt Mayor of Castro Street

Warner Bros. heeft regisseur Bryan Singer (The Usual Suspects, X-Men) en zijn Apt Pupil schrijver Brandon Boyce aangesteld om Randy Shilts' The Mayor of Castro Street te verfilmen.

Het boek vertelt het verhaal van Harvey Milk, gemeenteraadslid van San Fransisco en in 1977 de eerste openlijk homosexuele publieke figuur in Amerika. Milk werd een jaar na zijn aanstelling samen met de burgemeester vermoord door een ander gemeenteraadslid: Daniel White.

Bryan Singer zal met het project beginnen nadat hij Superman Returns heeft afgerond.

Nieuw project van David Lynch

David Lynch Explores The "Inland Empire"

French outfit StudioCanal is backing the upcoming project from David Lynch titled "Inland Empire," sources in Cannes confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday.

StudioCanal declined to talk about the project, which it has been trying to keep top secret. Laura Dern, Justin Theroux, Harry Dean Stanton and Jeremy Irons all star in the film which Lynch has been shooting under the radar for two years. Lynch won't say when it will be finished but the aim looks to be a world premiere at Cannes next year.

"It's about a woman in trouble, and it's a mystery, and that's about all I want to say about it," said Lynch recently. The title refers to the bleak residential area on the edge of the desert near Los Angeles. The film has also been shot on digital video.

(Novum) - Natuurbeschermers geven groen licht aan een nieuw project van filmmaatschappij Warner Bros. Het project houdt de restauratie in van een populair meer in Cook County, gelegen in de Amerikaanse staat Illionois.

Veel scènes van het romantische drama 'Il mare', met in de hoofdrollen Keanu Reeves en Sandra Bullock, worden gefilmd bij en in een huis op de oever van het meer Maple Lake. Het huis wordt speciaal door de filmmaatschappij voor de film gebouwd.

Warner Bros. betaalt 100 duizend dollar (77 duizend euro) aan Cook County om aan de oevers te mogen filmen. Daarnaast steekt de filmmaatschappij 40 duizend dollar (31 duizend euro) in het stabiliseren van de oevers en het aanplanten van nieuw groen.

De Nederlandse actrice Willeke van Ammelrooy speelt ook een rol in de film 'Il mare'. In het romantische drama speelt ze de moeder van Bullock, die verliefd wordt op Reeves. 'Il Mare' is gebaseerd op de Koreaanse romantische sciencefictionfilm 'Siworae' uit 2000. De film wordt geregisseerd door de in Nederland wonende Argentijnse filmmaker Alejandro Agresti."

Verhoevens Zwartboek op lange baan geschoven

CANNES - Zwartboek, de eerste speelfilm in twintig jaar tijd die Paul Verhoeven weer in Nederland zou maken, is op de lange baan geschoven. De Amerikaanse productiemaatschappij Seven Arts Pictures heeft in Cannes aangekondigd dat Verhoeven nu eerst The winter Queen zal filmen, gebaseerd op een roman van Boris Akoenin. (GPD)

Verhoeven verfilmt Russische detective

Regisseur Paul Verhoeven gaat dit

najaar de Russische roman The Winter

Queen van Boris Akunin verfilmen.De

opnames vinden in september plaats in

Sint Petersburg en Engeland.

Het boek is de eerste in een reeks van

elf over de detective Erast Fandorin.

Verhoeven heeft opties op de eerste

drie boeken.

Het verhaal speelt in 1896 en vertelt

over de zoon van een industrieel die

zelfmoord pleegt.Detective Fandorin

wordt op de zaak gezet en stuit op een

wereldwijde samenzwering.Wie de rol van

True Lies 2 toch nog in aantocht

19-05-2005 -Arnold Schwarzenegger en James Cameron werken aan een vervolg op True Lies uit 1994. Het zal de eerste film worden voor Schwarzenegger na zijn gouverneurschap.

James Cameron wilde aanvankelijk alleen de productie gaan verzorgen maar wil nu ook de regie gaan voeren. Cameron wil ook graag de oude bekenden uit True Lies terughalen waaronder Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Arnold en Bill Paxton. Dat kan in het geval van Curtis nog wel eens moeilijk worden omdat zij onlangs aankondigde te stoppen met acteren. Schwarzenegger heeft in ieder geval al laten weten interesse te hebben in de terugkeer.

Madsen spills more on INGLORIOUS BASTARDS! It's gonna get RAW!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I'm busy packing up for a sojourn up to the Great White North (Vancouver to be specific), but I got this bit of news today from Joe Utichi over at FilmFocus who got some more info out of Michael Madsen about the Tarantino war flick INGLORIOUS BASTARDS. He's read the finished script and describes it in the vein of THE DIRTY DOZEN and confirms Adam Sandler's involvement. I really liked Sandler's dramatic turn in Paul Thomas Anderson's PUNCH-DRUNK LOVE, so I'm open to the idea. Madsen says not only is Sandler gonna be in it, but so are Tim Roth (yay!) and Eddie Murphy (...).

I love classic Eddie Murphy from his BEVERLY HILLS COP/48 HOURS/RAW/DELIRIOUS days and would love to see him regain some of his lost cool (DADDY DAY CARE, anyone?). Tarantino has a way with actors... look at Travolta in PULP against Travolta in BATTLEFIELD EARTH. Look at Sam Jackson in PULP and JACKIE BROWN against Sam Jackson in the prequels. I personally love the idea of Tarantino giving Murphy his cool back and I can't wait to see what a Tarantino World War II flick looks like! How about you folks?

Terry Gilliam is making a bid to revive The Man Who Killed Don Quixote with his Tideland producer Jeremy Thomas and the Recorded Picture Company. The former Python is currently back in the saddle with two films – The Brothers Grimm and Tideland – after seven years away. Gilliam made it clear that he is now seriously engaged in trying to revive The Man Who Killed Don Quixote.

The disastrous first attempt to shoot the project was documented in the film Lost In La Mancha and restarting the venture means a protracted legal tussle over rights. But Gilliam said: “There are good signs.” Added Recording Pictures chief executive Peter Watson: “Having collaborated on Tideland, it was such a good experience that we want to be in the Terry Gilliam business. We are now attempting mouth to mouth resuscitation on the corpse of Don Quixote.”

The Weinstein Company announces their initial slate... Plus Tarantino & Rodriguez to team up on GRIND HOUSE!!!

Hey folks, Harry here with killer cool news. By Spring of next year - we'll have a Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez team up picture called GRIND HOUSE. No, no... it isn't the cut throat story of Starbuck's rise of Coffee Shop corporate supremacy. Instead - it will be two separate 60 minute Horror films directed by each of them... with a bizarre assembly of oddities sandwiched between from other unnamed filmmakers. Trailer, Clips... hell could be a cartoon. For those of you that know Quentin's unquenchable thirst for those old sleazy Grind Houses in the major metropolitan cities of the 70's that played every sort of 'sploitation known to man.

So it seems this will be the next Tarantino film - whether he does his Cantonese Kung Fu film or INGLORIOUS BASTARDS after that is anyone's guess... or something altogether unknown. However, Rodriguez will be filming the next SIN CITY chapters assembled into SIN CITY 2 due in Summer 2006 which will feature A DAME TO KILL FOR.

So Many Sequels, So Little Originality

If this year is the year of remakes, 2006 and/or 2007 will be the year of sequels if this lot have their way. In the last few days assorted filmmakers ranging from the great to the pitiful have weighed in on plans to make sequels to their recent films, many of which simply don't call for them and a few that its shocking the UN would allow such crimes against humanity. Lets take a look:

I, Robot 2

According to avid disc watcher 'CB' it seems that "Alex Proyas, on the new All Access "I, Robot" DVD, stated that if there was a sequel, it would take place in outer space. In the books, he elaborated that in one line it was mentioned the robots were banned from Earth due to them taking the humans' jobs...not very plausible, but he stated that the events of the I, Robot movie were more of a reason to get the bots off Earth. In essence I ROBOT 2 would be "a big space movie, with interplanetary action." Akiva Goldsman elaborated that Sonny would become more human as Spooner loses his humanity, somewhere between the line of man and machine emotionally."

Lemony Snicket 2 & Ring 3

Super producing duo Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald told IGN Filmforce that "Ring 3, we're talking about. We actually had kind of a cool approach to it. That's kind of in the beginning stages. Lemony Snicket's is still something Paramount is interested in pursuing and we're going to be talking with them more." Parkes continued saying "It's easy to scale down Ring 3 as a small picture that's not incredibly expensive. Lemony Snicket's, [there is] the creation of the world, and therefore they tend to be expensive. And there's Jim Carrey, so you have to be absolutely certain that the market's there and the idea's there before you embark on that."

Pootie Tang 2

Chris Rock told Echo Online that he's been considering a sequel to his cult hit - "We keep talking about it. I don't know, man. Start a club. Get some people to sign a petition. It's weird. There are some people who love Pootie Tang and then there are other people who hate Pootie Tang with a passion and want to destroy Mr. Tang. But I would love to do another Pootie Tang. I live to do another Pootie Tang. So it could happen."

Daredevil 2

"Elektra" director Rob Bowman talked with Dreamwatch who says there's still plans to do another "Elektra" or "Daredevil" movie. "I think it's still on the cards, I haven't heard anything about it but I know that was always the plan."

(Dit is me dus echt een raadsel. Daredevil, vreemd maar oke. Maar Elektra? dat is een van de grote flops van het jaar.)

The X-Files 2

In the same interview, Bowman was also asked if he'll be returning to the director's chair for the next "X-Files" movie. "It's in development hell, but it's in the works. All parties involved want to do it. I think Chris [Carter] and Frank [Spotnitz] have written a script and David [Duchovny] and Gillian [Anderson] - as far as I've been told - are interested in doing it. If they invite me to direct it I will and if they don't I wish them all the luck in the world".

Great news for 'Star Wars' fans - a seventh blockbusting film is being planned for the series.

Lucas had previously said current movie 'Revenge of the Sith' was to be the last.

Now it appears he has changed his mind and is developing a prequel to 'The Phantom Menace'.

A movie insider said: "George believes there are even more stories to tell.

"His latest idea would feature an almost all-new cast, apart from the Jedi master Yoda, who would be the hero of the new movie.

Lucas Talks Pre-Phantom Menace Movie

OK, so we're still skeptical, but apparently the rumors about a pre-Episode I Star Wars film by Lucas himself somewhat have a leg to stand on. On the heels of the second weekend in theaters for the madly successful Revenge of the Sith comes loose talk from the creator himself about the future of Star Wars.

William Ellis chimes in with the first word on the subject:

Well, it surprises me that TFN and other sites didn't report what Lucas said at the 2nd session at C3. He was asked by a fan "Is there any chance of us ever seeing movies in the Knights of the Old Republic Era?"

His response? "Well, we have a TV series and an animated series and depending how those do, this is something we might someday visit ... but it's too far out to really commit to anything."

I posted on your forums and the official forums and it seemed to be ignored but I heard it, and 3 friends heard it and my wife heard the same thing. I know I wasn't imagining things.

Then Mark confirms the action with this follow-up:

Josh - saw your post on this and though I'd throw my 2 cents in...

Lucas, very quickly and very briefly touched on this in his second

presentation at C3. I think everyone got caught up in the TV news, but he did respond to a question about allowing other directors to make more Star Wars movies and commented that this was under consideration and that this era in particular was one that he had in mind. Nothing set in stone, but he did make it sound as if it were more possible than not.

Former TFN Staffer Chris also heard this quote and makes an observation about it as well:

Lisa and I were in the second session too. So was a friend of mine from Texas and she heard the same thing about an "old Old Republic" project being a possibility. But I wouldn't read too much into it: it seemed more like an idle thought that he was just bandying about after the questioner posed it to him.

Interesting. Again, don't celebrate just yet ... but anything is possible, which is more than we could say a week ago. Stay tuned.
